About Me:: I am a 58yr. old female firefighter who is too stubborn to give up. I am also the dept. secretary. I have been involved in the fire service for 21 years. Both of my sons are and were involved at one time. My oldest son is currently the Deputy Chief. My other son is the Superintendent of Fire Protection and Emergency Preparedness for the Toronto Transit System. I don't attend the fire scenes anymore but remain involved in many other ways. I was the first female firefighter in our county 21 years ago. Our department currently has 68 volunteer members with a complement of 4 females, so we are slowly but surely moving in the right direction. We respond to approximately 150 calls a year. We are a rural community with a where the main income is derived from fishing, therefore there are a lot of large fishing plants and boat building shops in the area, along with a commercial area in the middle of the county.
