My background includes journalism and psychology geared to writing and researching stress management topics for all American workers--but specifically for fire/EMS.
I am the co-author of the college textbook, Burnout to Balance: EMS Stress. Jeff Dyar, former EMS program chair at the National Fire Academy is my co-author.
About Me:
I am founder of Hopson Global Education and Training: www.hopsonglobal.com
I write a national syndicated newspaper column published by McClatchy Newspapers, Inc.
I am a consultant to the International Assn. of Firefighters for Local 522.
I blog on www.jemsconnect.com under USA Wellness Cafe.
I became involved in the fire/EMS community in 1992 when I became a psychology issues writer for the former Emergency magazine in Redondo Beach, California. My assignments for 7 years revolved around stress in emergency responders and solutions to help responders copy and thrive in their challenging environments (at work). A lot of my articles focused on improving their personal lives as well.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
Responders Will Save a Life in Every Family in America
Top Issues Facing Responders:
* Budget cuts in departments--requiring more coverage with fewer dollars--and intensifying personal stress for all
* Physical health issues--chronic and acut fatigue due to running too many calls
* Strained politics of the workplace--working with leadership and co-workers who have trouble buying into a common vision
Greetings from Rangeley Maine.
I have a favor to ask.
My firefighter friend from Slovenia is doing a magazine article and has been asking me about firefighter stress and solutions to ff burnout.
