I began my fire service career twenty-seven years ago as an explorer with the Denver (CO) Fire Department. Since 1999 I have held various roles in public safety including public safety cadet, 9-1-1 dispatcher, volunteer, paid-on-call and career firefighter. Now in my sixteenth year in the fire service I currently serves as a Lieutenant on Engine Company 8 and chair the Occupational Health and Safety Committee with the Plano (TX) Fire Department. I also serve as a volunteer firefighter and a instructor with the Winnsboro (TX) Fire Department. I began an effort to preserve lessons learned information from fire service line-of-duty deaths in 2008 called HONOR THEIR SACRIFICES, founded the annual Dallas 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in 2011 and co-founded the Association of Memorial Stair Climbs in 2014. I am also the creator of Fire Service MENTOR, a Facebook page and website that strives to identify the essence and encourage the delivery of mentoring in the fire service.
