Other Past or Current Departments and Organizations
The other V.F.&R.S. have been country WA, Merredin,Pingelly, Geraldton.
My Training:
I joined the Merredin Fire Brigade in 1968 in which I gained a lot of experience with open crop fires in which the last of the Brass Helmets were in use.
Geraldton I took on the roll of secretary and training in which I gained all aspects of training.
On returning to Kwinana at this time the Brigade were still volunteers but turning out about 600 times per year. This gave me the skills I needed with training at the WA FESA Training Centre the ability to become a training officer.
About Me:
Ijoined the Brigade in Merredin as single person, married and at that time was a Baker with the family business.
1972 I moved to Pingelly were I became a member of the WA Police Service as a Traffic Patrolman.
During the following years I managed Youth Clubs, changed departments and travelled around the state as a Liquor & Gaming Officer before retiring and ran trucks for a living. I’m now a Mortgage Advisor..
Day Job:
Assist people in obtaining mortgages at no cost to the client.
Relationship Status:
Married
Why I Joined Fire/EMS
I joined because of the comradeship which in the country revolves around people that will give you the shirt off their backs and you are one big family.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
Thanks to the Fire Service I am a control junky and love it.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
1). Understanding, controlling and being able to work when your adrenaline flows.
2). Being able to adapt to a situation that you have not considered in seconds.
3). Making the right decisions and not being to proud to change your direction immediately after
making a decision.
4). Being a good communicator with your fellow members, Family, Friends and mostly forgiving
yourself when hindsight is in the equation.
