Canadian Armed Forces FD
My Training:
I am trained in PHTLS and ACLS. I have been a paramedic for over 25 years and am current with my training. I also worked as a firefighter in the Canadian Armed Forces for a few years before I got my discharge.
About Me:
I am married with two daughters and enjoy weight lifting, speed walking and patch collecting. I enjoy contacting other emergency related workers to arrange patch exchanges and talk about the difference in our systems. I am also involved with a Christian music group that tours Montreal and surrounding areas, we have recorded 3 CD's and are working on number 4!
Even as a kid I loved the flashing lights, sound of sirens and the adrenalin rush of an emergency. I also get a great sense of worth when I can make a difference in someone's life for the good. There is a sense of gratitude for your life when you can make someone else's better. I love EMS and always will!!
Why I Love Fire/EMS
It gives me great self-worth to help others in their time of need.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Violence/ Personal safety/ Communicable diseases/ Lack of information/ PTS/ Proper Gear/
Hey, sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner. I had my drug test last week and passed it. Yesterday I had the psychological test, and tomorrow I have the physical. I'm hoping to know about being hired for sure by next week :)
Thanks Daniel. I am in the process of getting some patches and id love to swap a few. As soon as i get these in ill shoot you an email.
Have A Blessed Day
Waylon
Hi Daniel, Wayne Harvey here, sorry for the delay in accepting your request but my ADSL line has been faulty and was repaired yesterday. Just to let you know i have patches to swap if you are keen. My postal address is 48 Samuel Street, Regents Park, Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa, 2197. May God bless you and your family and protect you in your daily work.
Hi Daniel,
Just wondering if the shirt arrived there yet? I sent it air mail more than a month ago. Don't think we can blame the ash cloud for such a long delay. No sign of yours at this end either though so maybe this time frame is normal - either that or some postmen are wearing them!!
Take care and take it easy,
Fanfare!! Shirt arrived this morning!!
Great shirt - love that the wording is in French. I know that French is used a lot in Quebec, is it the first language officially, ahead of English? Do you speak French as your first language?
Have never seen the waterproof patches before either - good idea too.
Fit is slightly large but not much - I think the one I sent you might be a little tight now. I think there's a difference in the sizing systems between Europe and Canada (your L = XL here?). Many thanks, I'm delighted to have it and its so different to any I have already.
Hope there's a delivery at your end soon.
Yes, I remember you mentioned Dungarvan before. I was also born in England though both my parents were Irish, working there at the time.
Were you able to get any info for me regarding violence/aggression against crews? The deadline for my project is next Friday, May 14th and I'd like to include any details of statistics, training crews get or youth training and education programmes aimed at dealing with problem kids/areas in the international section of my project.
Absolutely. I would be more than happy to trade patches with you! Shoot me your address and I will get my dept's patch out to you ASAP. I noticed you said you had a Montreal Airport Fire Dept patch? If so I would love to get my hands on one of those! I just recently started collecting patches and do not have any airport rescue/fire patches yet! Brookfield, CT is about an hour from me. I passed it last month heading up to the academy. I am in the early stages of relocating up to Canada within the next few months to a year as all my family is up there. I hope to be able to pursue a firefighter career up there!
Daniel,
If I'm reading this right I'm right behind you int he number of patches and like you always looking for something to add. Just have to be new/unused. Any time-any where. E-mail me at Seasand04@aol.com and I'll send scans of my original and current depts.
Stay low and stay safe.
Dave
Hey Daniel,
Absolutely. I have no problem trading for the Montreal FD patch. I will send my patch out to you tomorrow morning. I believe I am going to be residing in Calgary and going back and forth to Toronto. I have heard many wonderful things about Montreal however and plan on taking a visit there as well. I much appreciate your offer on the ride along. Thanks again for that offer! would you happen to be a Montreal Canadiens hockey fan?
Dan, I was able to actually get the patch in the mail to you this afternoon! I have some pretty busy days ahead so I wanted to make sure I got the patch in the mail ASAP. Here is my address also:

Delighted it arrived and has obviously pleased you. I'm surprised it arrived so quickly and that makes me wonder if it's the first or second one. If it was in 2 envelopes folded and secured with tape, then it is the 2nd one, if not then it's the first. Should the second arrive sometime enjoy both buddy!
If I come across any Irish patches I'll send them to you too.
Take care and I'll send you a picture when your shirt is framed and on the wall in the station here.
Best regards,
Hi Daniel,
That's the second one alright. A Canadian patch would be very nice and I'll rustle one up here somewhere for you. Take it easy and I'll be in touch again sometime soon.
Dan, Never a problem! I look forward to getting your patch! Do you by any chance have any other fire dept, rescue, airport rescue patches from any other depts up in Canada you are willing to trade or sell? I am pretty new in the field of collecting patches but I have about 10-12 so far and building. Not sure what types of patches you would be interested in but FDNY is a short trip from me and they have a TON of really detailed patches for practically all their depts. I would be happy to try to reel in some patches to send out to you as well! Thanks again Dan!
Hi Daniel,
Yes we have some framed patch displays in the station. Some of the patches have fallen inside the frames so we will be repinning them all in our decorating revamp that is ongoing at the moment. Your shirt, along with others the lads have brought in, will go up on the wall this weekend. Will send you a pic. We have also sourced some historic photos which will be framed too.
Take care out there,
Hey mate,
A trade would be good. My trade list has diminished and I dont have heaps to offer at the moment, however I do have:

Absolutely! Anytime you want to drop me a message feel free to! I will do the same! I am working on two FD patches..a West Point, NY patch for the military base and a Sleepy Hollow FD patch as well. I hope to get a few of each, If so I will def. drop you a line!
Thanks again for everything Dan!
Hey Dan,
Haven't talked to you in awhile so I figured I would shoot you a comment and say hey! How is work going? I hope all is well with you and yours!
Write back when you can!
Hey Dan,
So sorry it too so long to respond, my laptop had been having problems so I sent it to a buddy to get it de-bugged. All is going well on my end as well, thanks for asking! The collecting patches is coming along pretty good. I just got a Portland Oregon Airport FD patch from a guy on ebay. Did you ever hear anything about any of the Montreal Airport FF patches? Stamford just put an order out for a bunch of station patches so I will stay on top of those and send some up to you if you would like as well!
Allo Daniel,
Biensûre que je veux échanger avec toi. J'ai déjà la patch de MTL.
As-tu ceux de chaque casernes de MTL?

Things are going pretty good for me. I'm still working as a dispatcher for police/fire/ems, as well as working at Lifeway Christian part-time. I'm also volunteering with the local fire dept when I have time, and still the secretary there.
What about you? Any big changes since we talked last?
We don't have patches at dispatch...we only wear tshirts and jeans to work, and I can't remember if the director and asst director even have patches on their shirts haha. If we ever do get them I'll be sure to send one your way though!
Thats really exciting about the Honour Guard. I hope that all works out well for you!
I remember you were having problems with your back when we were talking before, has that gotten better?
Hi Daniel.
Thank you for the comment. I primary collect EMS-patches, but can offer fire, ems, police items as patches, caps and helmets.
