Other Past or Current Departments and Organizations
San Juan County Sheriff's Office, San Juan County Fire District 3
My Training:
Bachelor of Arts in Communications, Washington State University 1983; IFSAC Fire Officer I, IFSAC ARFF Firefighter, NFA Leadership & Administration, NFA Fire Command Operations, Washington State EMT-B, EMT-D, Hazardous Materials Technician, Wildland Firefighter II.
About Me:
I first became a volunteer firefighter in 1988 after moving to San Juan Island. I joined Friday Harbor Fire and San Juan EMS after moving to the Town of Friday Harbor. After many years as a Lieutenant and then Captain, I was promoted to the Assistant Chief position in 2002. I became Interim Chief of the FHFD in August of 2006, upon the departure of the previous Chief, and continued in that capacity until February of 2007. On arrival of current Chief Vern Long, I once again became A/C.
Hey tom how are ya doing..Welcome aboard FFN..I have a group for washington state firefighters and ems..I welcome ya to join just look at my page and its in my groups..you can add me if you like also...
Hey Tom thanks for the add and joining the group..feel free to post anytime..hope you have a great weekend..we just got a little hail storm...good thing it was fast moving..
Well i tell ya Tom if ya get a chance when your in spokane and want to take a little bit more of a drive and you end up here in the tri cities let me know will show ya a station or two if you have the time...
Oops, sorry Tom, I didn't see your comment on my page until after I commented below ... that sounds pretty cool, I'll have to keep an eye out in August. I haven't really heard/read much about the celebrations yet.
I am looking forward to next weekend. We are sending some new recruits up to North Bend for BTL. We have been spending every week training them. Last Thursday we did a live car fire training. We try to do at least 1 a year and we try to invite other depts. to participate. It makes for a better training since our dept is so small.
It would probably have been Copalis Beach, Pacific Beach, Humptulips or maybe Quinault. How long ago was she with the department? I don't know everyone in those departments except for the current members in Copalis Beach.
I do agree there, North Bend is a blast. I've been there in the snow too. Pretty cool. I am the one that normally fills SCBA bottles and I do rehab. I have been on the 6th floor once last year when everyone else was doing cars at the curb. It was pretty exciting. I also got a tour of the whole thing and seen what eveyone gets to go through. I was impressed.
No Tom, I am sorry but I dont know who Ryan is.. It has been about 5 or 6 years since I was with ESAR. But thanks for the great welcome! Have a fantastic weekend!
Good Morning Tom -
I wonder if it is as sunny and beautiful on your side of the mountains as it is over here.. Cold, I mean really cold, but sunny!
We are in the middle of teaching an EMT class here at the station and its mid-term day.. Pretty good class, good head on their shoulder type people! I'm sure they will all do fine!
Have a great day!
We only have the phone system from Positron now...I don't know how I feel about the Spillman program we use now. I think it was made more for admin to track things...I haven't found it to be a fast working dispatch program.
We just had our PROQA training today. Looks like a great program for the EMD that should interface well with Spillman. We didn't get to work both programs together so I can only assume until we are running with it that it will interface...Still looks like a great program (just 1 more less headache to think about). :)
Well thank you. I use to live in your neck of the woods also. But this is still home. Thanks for the add and I look forward to chatting and discussing our wonderful service with you. Be safe and learn something new today.
Mornin' Tom ... nice trick, post a comment so I have no choice but to come online LOL. To tell you the truth, I don't come here very often (I prefer the IACOJ/Firehall.com type of format) so it was a fluke you caught sight of me ;) Yeah, booooo - the nice weather is toast. At least I got to go play in the sun (watched the Westerdam come in on Saturday from McCaulay Pt) this weekend. Supposed to be crappy all week. STAY SAFE!
It tried to snow yesterday. But, we are still holding out. It is that time of year though, runway friction testing! Yes, a great use of my ARFF skills..... Oh, well, safety is job numero uno, eh. Is there an ARFF dept at Friday Harbor?
We seem to have the opposite problem. Our county mutual aid team has the codes to our gates, but doesnt respond. There appears to have been some issues (I am not privy to the details) in the past with the Port ARFF dept and out county response team. Its too bad, several of the county FF are ARFF certified.
Currently, our senior captain is working with the local college to set up an ARFF program. We've already got a Mock-Up with recycled fuel capability and the college currently contracts with someone out of Seattle to teach ARFF course once per year. Several of us are working on our fire officer certifications as we hope to be part of the future ARFF teaching team here.
Forgot to add in my first response. I lived in Bellingham for seven years; loved every minute of it. Been trying to get back to that area of Washington for years!!! Mountains, rivers, lakes, and the great Pacific; the most beautiful place to live on this Earth!
Hey Tom how are ya doing..just stoppen into say hi and hope spring brings you lots of warmth...take care n stay safe out there..not too much happening on the east side...
