hello to u also.. stay safe
  • Tiffanie Pettis

yea same here! things have been going a little slow here the past couple weeks...how has it been up there?
  • paul

Thanks for "stopping by"...how are things in your part of the world ?
  • Tiffanie Pettis

yea...wow that would be buisy here too. in just waiting for that next call because of all the talk around our station too. it has been about two weeks since our last call, but that one was a major one. we had a double fatality mva u p/robably heard/read about it since your close by. _it was my firat offical fatality since ive been a member, i have been to other fatal accidents and such and have seen some bad things so it didn't bother me w that part. i knew both parties involved tho, and when my friends started to ask about thing that was when it got hard expecialy since im bound to not say anything about it. but it is all part of the job. im thinkin' that our next big call is gonna be a structure fire of some sort but im not sure if it will be ours or mutual aid.
  • Tiffanie Pettis

do all u guys sit around the station and take bets about the next call sometimes when it gets slow?
  • paul

Really slow out here...grass is starting to dry out and lightning predicted Sunday and Monday so things could pick up.Stay Safe
  • Tiffanie Pettis

yea we had a mva just after that fatal it was a guy on a harley and he was extremely intoxicated! he wasn't hurt but he crashed his bike about 11 at night and just stumbled off the side of the road into the grass and fell asleep... we where called about 10-of-5 that next morning when somebody found him it was hillarious when we got on scene. ---that was one of the calls that i won a bet on because i told one of the captains we where gonna get a call about 5 am, and he was picking on me because i was cleaning my new helmet and he said the first time i wore it i would be in my pajamas-well he was right too because i was at s friends grad. party and responded wearing pj's because my cloaths where in the dryer.....even better yet they where her bro's pajama pants so i will never hear the end of it.
  • Tiffanie Pettis

haha yea... the only problem was when we got back to the station--- but in cheep entertainment and give the guys somethin to joke about i guess lol
  • Tiffanie Pettis

well sunday we had a MASSIVE down pour!! we knew that we where gonna get a call because it was terrible! i got stuck out side in the middle of it ofcourse... i went for a walk befofe the storm and i was wearin flip-flops ...then all hell let loose and the tones dropped for a transformer blew up and on fire so i was running barefoot down the road absloutly SOAKED and there was about 4-5 in. of water in some spots of the rd. it was interesting........then last night we got a call-again i was outside-ddnt hear the call, i ran into my friends house to grab my stuff and get my keys. ran out onto the hardwood floors that she just waxed and slid on the little rug and fell on my ass. lol ....got to the station and they had already left because a bunch of the guys where already there, come to find out it was only a tree down. kinda weird because there was NO wind or anything like that but... yea so .... but im expecting another call within the next few days because they always come in three's and we've had the first two
  • Tiffanie Pettis

oh... and just so you know lol it probably seems like im realy ditsy and stuff from all these stories about responding for calls but its not really that bad lol
  • Tiffanie Pettis

cool! sounds fun lol good luck with your classes!
  • Tiffanie Pettis

well we got a call today - interesting.... dispach came across as a vehical on fire on 96 just north of candor- (yea just north of candor i wasnt the only one wondering why we where first toned out if it was NORTH of our district but-ok)....so we get to the station and we are waiting on a driver for our rescue, a captian decides that hes gonne have to be the o.i.c cuz nobody else was showing up he sends our main engine out and precedes in his pov. all fine and well except he thpught it was the opposite direction but fallowed the rig anyway-they couldnt find it...meanwhile back at the station we got 5 guys all gearded up, suited up, packed up, ready to go in the back of our rescue-wtf is taking so long we had a driver 10 min ago why are we not moving?---he was still getting dressed,omg!- so according to sop's the chief or ic responds to scene with our main engine fallowed emediately by our primary rescue. ---our tanker responds to our main station, at this point were on standby because they cant find the thing, then as 401(engine) is heading back dispatch comes across they got another location- cap. goes to the scene fallowed by 401( our driver is now undressed because he heard stand by which apparently to him was automatically stand down)- the tanker decides to respond all of a sudden- all 5 of us in full gear etc ready to go are still waiting to roll- they all get there and it turnes out it was a small brake fire and was only smoking at the time of the call- there was nothin when they got there- so they do their thing we come to the conclusion that the rescue apparently isnt gonna ever even leave the station so we dress down and put everything away. luckily somebody thought enough to write down averything from the vehical etc. so we could do a report (since all that stuff is in the rescue that didn;t leave the station)...it was a mess! i think that we need to talk about this call and work things out a bit because thank god it wasn't anything serious. granted we cant do anything about wrong location given but the rest- especially a refresher of which truck respond to which situations. its even on a big huge bord in the station for everyone to see.
  • Tiffanie Pettis

yea. exactly! there was one trailor fire we had that waas kinda the same deal but all the greentags took our suv and loaded all the tools packs etc in that so they could get there faster because our rescue truck dosn't do hills too good anymore and it would've taken forever to get there. i didn't get to go with them because i wasn't officially a greentag yet and it was kinda full. well by the time the other guys left finally got done arguing about who was gonna drive the rescue it was close to 10 min later because none of them wanted to take it they wanted to take another truck( eventhough they where in a way leaving our guys stranded if they needed more tools, more bottles etc. incase they diddn'd grab enough since the truck was suppposed to roll right behind them)... by the time we got to the scene finally everything was out, done, bottles changed, everything picked up, cleaned up,... i wasa so mad because the only thing i could do was mop up stuff at that point. and then i couldn't even do scene suppost stuff because all the bottles where already changed out and stuff too.
  • Chel

Your welcome-thanks for the request. stay safe!

how ya been anything good lately?---i just got told last night that i might be getting fitted for my gear soon!!!! yeay! im so excited!!! gear that fits finally! and gear that i can legaly wear too, since mine is 14yrs old and im gettin in a pack-
  • Tiffanie Pettis

not much goin on rly. im so glad im gonna get new gear yhou have no idea!lol and i talked to mike (our guy incharge of inventory etc.) about gettin some gloves bufore i take survival and F.A.S.T so i have ones i can actually use. i don't exactly like the whole idea of going through the burn building with the gloves i burned holes in from FF1...he said that he would see what he gould do for me(wink) ---and the chief is thinkin about gettin some new fancy glove to try out so i might be gettin one of those pair which would be cool :) ...other than that not much happinin except a bungh of bs, like rly bs, calls---we had one that turned out to be a light on some guys porch the other day- thats about how the past week has been with the 4 or5calls we've got
  • Tiffanie Pettis

earned myself a new nickname last night ---now everyone from training is calling me kittycat
  • Tiffanie Pettis

victim extrication class last night in spencer- we where flipping one of the cars on its side and i was in the middle and there are like 6 of us or so to push it over...well there where mice and when we flipped it they where scurryin around and tryin to hide in the wheel wells and stuff and i reached down and grabbed one (had my gloves on) one of the guys tried to stomp on it but wasn't fast enough- and then there was another and another and a caught them and threw them across the field so that we could move on with class withought someone flippin out----so one guy called me kitty because i caught the first one and then grabbed the others prty easy so then they all did--kinda suprized i grabbed em how i did tho kinda just reached down and caught em and ddnt have to chase em around could't believe it
  • Tiffanie Pettis

they love mo so much they can find ways to pick on me no matter what iu do lol but its mutual lol
  • Tiffanie Pettis

haha YEA!!!! so sunday we had 2 calls then i went to work...soaked because we got caught in the storm, i went to a corn roast in weltonville w my dad and we jeft just in time! we left their station and both of our pagers went off and about 2 seconds later it was absoloutly pouring! mad thunder and lightning and bad winds ........then last night just left work it wasn't even 5:30 we got a call then another and another so we didn't get back in station untill after 11 -it was a long night and nat even any good calls either
  • Tiffanie Pettis

lol nice---yea we are gonna get another storm here tonight again....let the calls begin lol
  • Tiffanie Pettis

yea we managed to kinda avoid it fir last night but not so lucky today thi the storm hit us hard just started but no calls-yet-
  • Tiffanie Pettis

yea that does suck!!! i was helpin my friends dad with a gas tank today which turned out to be more than what he had originally thought and it was hotter than hell !!!
  • Tiffanie Pettis

its not rainin too aweful bad now,,,for a min it was REALLY pourin and there where some good lightning strikes too but must be they didn't hit anything this time
  • Thomas McBride

Thank you for the friend request. Hope we can connect sometime.
  • Tiffanie Pettis

ha! good -buisy!!!! we had our picknick saturday, went to the parade that morning in spencer before hand...then we where just gettin ready to start our company softball game and we got toned out w the squad to a cpr call. get thereand the guy is up on the roof had a heart attack and we got the squad up there doin compressions and everything killin themselves-it was a pritty big guy and was interestiong gettin him down. we ended up having to package him on the roof and lower down the backbord luckilly we had enough manpower by then to hand him off and stuff-we did it all with just a backbord too, we didn't have the stokes basket on scene, none of our ladders, ropes, nothin because we just took a crew up in the suv because it was assist to the squad for a cpr call... but it worked out well we didn't end up really needin ne of it
  • Tiffanie Pettis

and then today- wake up ass early im the a-m to go to a call just gettin back now
  • Tiffanie Pettis

we had a call for manpower to weltonville (which, if you didn't know, is still part of candor's fire district so we where supposed to get toned out at the same time like for automatic mutual aid but ddn't work that way) ...but we had no idea what the call was we get there and its hundreds of round bales on fire an this farm...right next to the barn and everything omg and it was a mess...
  • Tiffanie Pettis

ha! yea your tellin me about the heat!!!!! yuck!.....luckilly my dept left before mop up so we ddn't all die- call came out around 2am we where there untill a little after 11 and weltonville, owego, newakvalley, and couple campville guys where there for a couple more hours after we headed out. we hent and put the fire out for the boys (cuz they couldnt seem to make much progress) and then left them with the rest lol.---and apparently i made it on the news somehow too
  • Tiffanie Pettis

yea we run with them sometimes. we are the neighboring dist. to them. we didn't get called out it must not have been too bad --and no don't know what channel one of the guys told me thay where like hey i say u! i was like uh yea ya did u wer my back on the nozel remember?_ he was like no no on the news you where on tv ...i was like oh ok
  • Tiffanie Pettis

and i guess we had some issues from that call cuz one of our guys got caught on fire b-c an owego team pushed fire onto him....idk ddn't see it it was just after i got relieved to change out my bottle and get reassigned, but i guess there is a big fuss being made about it now-more drama!
  • Tiffanie Pettis

ha wow! thats really awesome!! yea my dad's exgirlfriend/kinda sorta almost step mom lives in freeville and runs squad and was actually on all 5 depts at one point in time lol idk if shes still around at all or even still runnin but yea we picked on her about that all the time.-----thats really awesome tho! yea i woulda been made an lt this past elections but we have a policy that you can't be a line officer either appointed of elected unless you are a minimum of 18 and have been an active member for one year or more so maybe this year lol
  • Tiffanie Pettis

heyy whats new and exciting? we havn't had any calls or ne thing since that hay fire... but last thursday i got stuck on a 2 1/2 with this stupid guy that has never even been aloud to touch a charged hoseline before cuz hes just a dumb ass and just plain can't handle anything other than scene support at best ... yea well he opened up the bale fully and all at once major watter hammer so we both got jerked around, then im tryin to hold him and push the hose to him and hes lettin it come back then while its completely open he decides to let go!!!!!
  • Tiffanie Pettis

good thing i was where i was supposed to be of we woulda had a loose hose drill OMG! he was lucky that i ddn't go on my ass and that i was where i could reach the bale to shut it off but just barely... i seriously would killed him and the guys wer all runnin cuz they knew i was gonna go after them cuz they where the ones that stuck me with him
  • Tiffanie Pettis

haha yea been there too but just not the driver, he have had alot if crap like that too... i think there should be a dumb ass test before you can become a member lol
  • Tiffanie Pettis

well alot has been happening! ive been really buisy i havn't had much time to get online between my work schedule and firefightin stuff....so, we got 2 STRUCTURE FIRES within a week! we had one saturday and of course as much as we hear CANDOR FIRE CANDOR! REPORTED STRUCTURE FIRE! ofcourse everyone was there so i couldn't really do anything at first becausse we had all the chiefs and whatnot there plus we had some mutual aid depts. too we called in fast from owego and had greentags from spencer and had their T.I.C. so their chief was there too but hes pritty cool. lol he was pickin on me the whole time. then i got sent in with that group to do overhaul and check for hotspots and whatever. then they sent me up into the attick becaure i was the only one small enough to squeeze into the room and to get up there -and then i got stuck once i finally got up there. lol it was kinda funny but i was gettin pissed tho because nothin was horkin right ya kno so then i got unstuck backed out to take my pack off and crwaled back up so i could ckeck the cealing and all that. im still gettin picked on about stuff from that call(more than just gettin stuck up in the attic).----then the ither one was on tuesday. 3 alarm barn fire then we got another alarm just as i got to the station i heard the siren goinn off again.we had everything out of our station, EVERYTHING, from weltonville, we had trucks and manpower and greentags from owego, and spencer had some from tioga center, danby was on standby at our station and we had another rig from owego on standby at our station. i got to do ALOT that day! we got there its rippin pritty damn good! its a polbarn with a workshop and there is a smaller structure on the side where they had some storage and tools and some stuff for thehorses and what ever. we started two attack lines on the larger structure i was second man on one line with the asst. chief on the nozzel. we getin there and hes just worried about water and gettin to the fire in lookin around and i was like HOLY SHIT! WE ARE FUCKED!!!! hes like what? i tapped opn his ahoulder poiinted to the front and to each side. he was like OH SHIT!...in front of us where two big asedaline tanks there where probably over 20 55gal drums full of god only knows what at that point because the owner is a farmer, has a trucking business, and we know that this structure we are in was his "garage" so we knew it was somethin really flamible atleast. and then to the other side there eas a big ass propane tank!....we pulled outa there and got sent to the back corner of that structure to push water in through the back window since we couldn't get to that corner and we couldn' see anything that was inside the windoe because of all the smoke and stuff. im on the nozzel now, luckilly knowing enough from classes and training to have it be instinct to stand off to the side of the window and not be in the middle of it. there where 3 of those 55gal drums full of oil just inside the window- already on fire- well you know just as well as anyone what happens when water is added! so it flashed out the window, flames covering the entire window probably shot out about 10 feet. that was fun! then i told chief screw you wer not pushin that line thru the window! by then my low air alarm was already goin off and i got sent up to rehab with my group. they got the ladder in there through the front and got the fire nocked down and stuff and they where worried about the integrity of the structure also. so nobody else was goin in with a handline. --thats the most of the exciting stuff with that call pritty much- there where 3 more large propane tanks and several more 55gal drums on the back of the larger structure and in and aroun the smaller attached structure. thank god that it was all just venting and by some miricle something or someone didn't blow up. we had to get the excavater in to do averhaul to get all the tin and stuff outa the way and to pull stuff apart, then we had to wait for fire investigation and D.E.C. because of the oil and whatever else that leaked everywhere.
  • Tiffanie Pettis

ha yea i heards about that we hat our training night and all the guys where talkin about it and io was thinkin-- eh, i but he had fun at that one lol-- one guy was makin a HUGE deal about it he likes to tell stories and the reat of us where like yea ok, and this is what REALLY happened instead lol. ---we did maintenance lastnight, fun!, and after iu came in one of the chiefs was like hey tiff i gotta talk to you in my office for a sec. i was like oh shit! what now?! i know its about the call on tuesday. and it was, he got approached by someone and get his ass chewed because i went in and was packed up. i told him last i knew i had the pritty little piece of paper with that stamp on it saying i could anyway. then he asked well where you inside that structure?i couldn't say deffinately yes or know because i didn't physically see you in there with my own eyes. i looked over to the other guy that i was on the line with and said chief if you say i wasn't supposed to go in to a structure i wasnt in there. hes like good enough for me, i didn't even see who was on the line so. ---i don't know why some people gotta be dicks! , and there is another kid (that is a friggen retard but thats besides the point) he has NO training no classes nothin but just because he just turned 18 and law says you can be full interior when you are 18 he thinks he is god now. soio he gets all pissy and tries to start stuff because i get to do stuff but between his attitude and the fact that he has no damn clue what hes doin and wont isten long enough for everyone to teach him, most of the guys wont let him do anything. one of the assistant chiefs went in and talked to the chief and said, ok if im on a scene and i'm short for green tags. i have a kid that just turned 18 and a kid that has ff1 and knows as much as most of the officers...who am i gonna send in?
  • Tiffanie Pettis

hq yea thats always fun! atleast you had time to put the hose back on first!! i was at the station one day by myself was lookin the trucks over and what not, well the hose on our attack line hadn't been loaded right after our training the night before. ok no big deal its an easy cross lay and it is our main attack truck and that is the main hand line. i got up ontop and got all of the 1 3/4 attack line oin a nice big pile on the floor of the bay (all 200') an i got one row down and atarted to bring that row back to the front and we got a call for a poss. structure fire... i loaded that entire cross lay bu the time the driver of the engine got to the rig. and it wven worked and looked half descent! i should do one of those hose lay competitions lol
  • Tiffanie Pettis

than i got the brilliant idea to take CFR- yea cuz like im not already buissy enough lol. i have school full time, work after school and then have rescue tech wed nights and training nights thursday nights... not too bad right? so than i decide to do the damn ems version of ff1 basically OMG! and lemme tell ya ff stuff is a breeze for me i want to get into emt stuff but i don;t have any clue about it at all!!! i have my basic first aid cert but thats as far ad it goes besides CPR and that. so now tues wed thurs i am in class, go to school all day work in between and then am studying for CfR every spare chance i get! i think my work load has reached OVERLOAD. exp with plannning for collage and what not. i might have to postpone the emt stuff untill i go tot colage and have to take it there for my degree indtead of ahead of time
  • Tiffanie Pettis

awe cool thats sweet to offer! thank you!... i might keep that in mind--i had an interviwe for a new job today so we will see how that goes i might hand in my books and stuff tonight but i havn't decided yet cuz if i really put my mind to it i could do it and would probably be fine but,its alot of work with everything else oin my plate and having 4 nights a week tied up with fire stuff makes it hard to get hours in for work and i need the money more than that class right now so i guess that comes first. :( thats just the way life goes sometimes and it sucks!
  • Tiffanie Pettis

thank you for the offer though! i might have to keep you oin mind for the next time somethin rolles around if i end up not bein able to do CFR. i might end up waiting untill next year and then end up just doing my emt when it comes around if i gotta.......and thats the other part- since its not a fire class technically idk for sure yet if my chief will cover it or not and the squas capt. won't because i din't run on the squad only fd and its totally separate here
  • Tiffanie Pettis

did you goi to the mutual-aid tonight? how did it go?... we got called up to danby station--call number 100!!!
