Top Issues Facing Responders:
It is alittle harder sometimes being vol, sometimes you only have a handful of member or many other diffrent reasons, and it is hard sometimes to have the man power. I have been a part of other VFD's and it was very hard to have muchless keep members. So i think that this is as well as funding challenges.

Hey Sarah nice to meet you, I also enjoy the fire service, Im married and my husband is the asst chief of our dept. Its nice to see more women in this service i think it takes a certain kind to do this job.
  • Heather Gilbey

Yes i enjoy i alot to. My husband is our asst chief of our dept and i have a little 4yo boy so it makes it tough for us to make calls. Since hes an officer he tends to go more than me and since im a medic i tend to get stuck on the medicals, Ive done ems for 17 years and fire 4 years so of course all i want to do is fire im tired of ems esp when i do it full time, sometimes we have to fight on going on calls, lol.
  • Heather Gilbey

Hey Sarah, thats great your going to get your emt-b, I have my paramedic and level II fire, but we dont run lots of fires so its hit and miss, definately plenty of ems runs tho, lol. I always try to make our fire drills monthly, do you find any part of this job diffcult?? Being a female and all??
  • Heather Gilbey

Sarah, Ya me to im trying to loose some weight to, I try to attend all the trainings we have to. Sometimes its hard with having a little boy, but I am respected on my dept i am the only female firefighter and i can hold my own. Some say they would rather have me in a fire than some of the other guys. That makes me feel good.
