My Dad was a Captain with a local FD. I spent my entire life walking around firehouses. All I ever wanted to do is to be a firefighter.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
#1 Forgetting to slow down. If there's a fire, it will be there when u get there. If a person calls for a headache, they will still have one when you get there. If YOU don't make it, you help nobody.
#2 Failure to accept change. There are many FD's that have EMS integrated into their service now, and there are some that fail to recognize that that's how the business is now. Trust me, Id much rather be on a fire truck and having a bed to sleep in at night, but Im paying my dues til I get a chance to get on the pumper; and there are some that don't believe we belong there.
Good to see a fellow St. Louisian on the site. If there is anything I can do to be of service, please let me know. I have visited some of the St. Louis fire houses in the past and gave the guys shoe shines. Would be willing to offer this to your house if you think your guys might be intererested.
