It chose me. If you ask, most of us will answer the same. We do what we do because we want to, because we feel we need to, and because we are proud of what we do. We make a difference in our communities. We dont do it for riches or glory or fame.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
Making the difference that keeps people safe.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Keeping up with rapidly changing technologies. Maintaining funding in the face of shrinking budgets and reduced number of fires. Attracting the best candidates. Aligning pay and benefits to a level that will allow personnel to stay on the job, especially in EMS. Making Dispatch the fourth profession, establishing national standards for training and performance for 911, call-taking and dispatch personnel.

I guess you go back aways Brother. The first wagon I ever worked in was a Travel-All, with a 4 speed in it :). Say hello to my Brother Mark if you run into him. (Boston Fire Emergency)
I'm beyond help Brother. BUT, I DON'T HAVE TO SHOVEL SNOW ANYMORE... Actually, I ould come back for a job in the "Turret", or hatever the hell you guys call it now. Does Timmy Hayes still ork EMS Ops or did they fire his ass?
Well here I am still waiting to get approved to go back on duty. I have been out since my auto accident on Nov 24 2007. Always wear your seat belt, people! Every trip, every time! Even with air bags deployed, I would have been dead if not for two straps and a buckle. No matter how good a driver you are, how skilled, how highly rated, there is some nitwit out there gunning for you. In my case the other driver blew a red light at moderate speed and the result was a T-bone. I suffered a fractured clavicle, concussion, sprained wrist and dislocated finger. Lucky for me there was a cop and ambulance waiting at the light. But the word 'rest' is a four letter word. The doctors prescribed that in order for the body and mind to heal. But daytime TV sucks and after a while the walls start to close in. Tests, more tests, MRI, CT, EEG, EKG... at least they didnt find the cuckoo in my head! But the dept physician has to certify me before I can resume terrorizing the city. So i wait.
