Why I Joined Fire/EMS
The city I live in was hiring for paid on call firefighters so I tested and made the cut. I always had a interested in firefighting but never made the choice to test, My wife and boy's encouraged me to test and I was working with a retired firefighter by the name of Ralph Hall who is a legend in our city.

Ralph also encouraged me to test and with a few stories from his many fires he has fought and lives he saved and people he helped I made the Choice. Now with many fires under my belt and "ONE LIFE SAVED" to-date I am hooked, My only regret is not trying when I was younger. I am 39 very soon to be 40 and as we all know that makes me to old to be career in my city, I did hear of a rural town close to where I live that was testing for full time firefighters and has an exception if already on a department even P.O.C. so I tested. I was the oldest to test and made the cut even made first on the list to be hired but needless to say I got bump to second for preference points.

I just can't wait until my spot becomes available it will be a dream come true for me, and to top it off they don't have a residency rule so I will be able to stay with Wood River Fire Dept. also so it looks like I have found my calling. I would encourage anyone who has an interested in firefighting go for it you will be helping save people and property and feeling great about it.

hey Danny I'm Wayne. I live in Indiana by Indiana University but every couple years I go to Pierre Marquette and make some biking trips over to wood river and back. You guys keep pretty busy over there?
