About Me:
I am currently taking a break from firefighting due to pregnancy! (yay) I am due April 23 and will try to be back active by mid June or whenever I feel capable of safely doing it again! I fought up until I was 4.5 months pregnant and realized it just wasn't worth the risk of myself, other firefighters and mostly my child!
However, not being able to fight fire is the toughest part of pregnancy for me.. I never had morning sickness or aches and pains~ I love it
Following in my Dad's footsteps. I have wanted to be a firefighter since I was 7 years old and just stuck with it until I was 18. Now I have six years in. Hard to believe all those years flew that quick!
Why I Love Fire/EMS
helping people.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Small department funding support, local community support.
Welcome to the Firefighter Nation. In addition to the relatively cool videos and fire scene photos, there are numerous groups, discussions and chat available.
If you have never had the opportunity, take a minute to explore firefighterclosecalls.com and the secret list. This is a wonderful web site to explore and learn from the mistakes of others. It is also, sadly, a roll call of those whom have made the ultimate sacrifice, in their service to their communities.
We have all joined the Public Safety Community for a variety of our personal reasons. Some of us are paid, while others volunteer. Many are firefighters, while others enjoy the EMS side of the house. We have active firefighters, line officers, chiefs, administrative officers, and a number of old timers who have seen most of the mistakes already made at least once. We have firefighters with many many years of experience, and others that, well, don’t. All are welcome here in The Nation. We welcome your input, just as we hope that you learn from the experiences of others.
Personally, I have 31 years service to the local fire department. I have held most line officer positions, and some administrative as well. Now part of the Old Guard so to speak, I am less inclined to go charging into where others are trying to escape. Instead, I choose to monitor the fire scene closely, attempting to ensure the safety of all on the fire scene.
I welcome you to the FFN. Here we all share one common goal.....
Yes it is a very small world isn't it. I take it Jeff Saari from TL fire. We work with Twin Lakes a lot on MVA and snowmobile PI's (actually 0245 this morning we were on a bad sled PI). Were also one of their mutual aid deptartments.
I know a few of the DNR fire officers myself. That is my next step, take some wildland fire classes. Took this year off, been in classes the last 4 winters, needed a break.
Yes I am looking forward to the UP's in Houghton. Took time off of work even. I've been thinking of getting a hotel room down their even. Every year the Wednesday of the UP's Twin Lakes, Toivola and Adams has their own little get together and has a mini tourney, lots of fun. I think I'm looking forward to that even more.
So your sis lives in Pelkie huh. Pelkie and Tapiola are nice area's. I like going for rides out there when I need to clear the ole head, haha.
Hi Jen; Thanks for adding me to your list. And welcome to FFn. I too am a volunteer firefighter. I'm with the Pelkie Volunteer Fire/Rescue Dept. I been with them for just about a year now. Like you,I wanted to help people.
Yeah I read about it today on tv6's web page. Was going to message when I got home. Gas leak or drug lab? How bad was the guy hurt? There sure have been a lot of houses exploding. Wonder whats up with that?
We had a wild night to. Was on TV a lot. Look at tv6's web sight.
I bet your still riding an adrenaline rush. To bad you had to know the guy, that always makes it rough. Glad to hear it was a gas leak instead of a drug lab. I'm suprised he lived through the blast.
Hope your proud of yourself for getting him out of there. Give yourself a pat on the back for me. TV6 got a video on your fire today on there web sight, take a look. Should download it and put it on here.
In Florida, that must have been nice. No not a lot has been happening. Even our responder calls have been slow, knock on wood. Were up to 16 sled PI's now. God I hope were done with them until next winter. Were you involved with the fire death down there a week or more ago. Nice to here from you again. Keep in touch, later, bye bye.
Thats good. Hope I'm never on a fatal fire. Our 1st responder calls have picked back up in the last few days, hope they slow down again. We've had 10-15 fires and maybe 30-40 responder calls this year. Well I'll let you go, stay safe, bye.
Hello. The Copper Country Fire Tournament is bieng held in Baraga this year, do you plan on attending? I know you have relatives in the area. I also know your department is out of the area, but thought you may. If so let me know, would love to meet you, its always nice to meet who you talk to.
