About Me:
I've been in law enforcement for 29 years, EMS for 27, firefighting for 8 years.
I've lived in Iowa all my life, have traveled in the USA, alot. Visited many of your fine states. Want to visit them all plus some countries as well.
All three of these jobs have kept me pretty tied down. I just dropped my EMS for a while to free up my schedule, but will go back into it when I leave law enforcement in the next year.
I enjoy meeting people from all walks of life and interests.
I'm a pretty laid back, yet off the wall person. Enjoy laughing and clowning around when not busy. I've enjoyed getting into the fire fighting world, wished I did it years ago! But I enjoy the best of three worlds right now.

Why I Joined Fire/EMS
I figured I could stand around and watch people suffer or I could be someone who could help in an emergency situation.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
Helping people in bad situations
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Lack of enough funding for smaller agencies, lack of volunteers in our area.

It is warm, but we only get snow once every few years down here. As a matter of fact, we received about an inch in Jan, and last time it was New Year's 2001!!! Wish it would snow again!
    Be careful out there!

    Have a good one!
  • Clint M. Nelsen

No, just spent a lot of time at Helser when my wife was going to school there!
Only ties I have to Ames now is Elmquist/Decker's on Lincoln Way. Jake Elmquist is my cousin.
  • Clint M. Nelsen

Yeah it is! You've certainly got my respect doing the job you do! Speaking as the son of a police officer, I'm really glad you guys are finally getting authorized to be armed. I never understood how a certified law enforcement officer in Iowa could be denied the right to carry on the job!!!
  • Clint M. Nelsen

Definitely a long time coming. I certainly know what you mean about 9/11 changing things. I guess it's the reason I have a job doing what I do though.
  • Karen H.

Prayers for your community are being lifted about Tracy.

Joel, Please call me in regards to the funeral and visitation. I would like to attend to show respect but don't want to go alone. Maybe we could carpool. Call me! In the meantime, send colin my regards.

Yep, California is my home. I have lived here all of my life and there is no where else I'd rather be except in the mountains in a cabin and fishing.

I am sorry to hear of his son passing away. That is a real blow and probably doesn't make any sense. It never does. I have had 10 relatives die and it's just me and my Mom left now. One thing I learned and survived through is this: Our loved ones are never really gone, they are still here is spirit but just in a different dimention. I know my family is helping me because I have talked to them and I get help. Hope everyone is o.k. and take care of yourself.

Ty for the add. Hope you have a good weekend. Hope to hear from you soon. Stay safe out there.
  • Teresa Nolan

My weekend went pretty rough. I had to work this weekend. Saturday went great and sunday went shitty. We lost a resident 3 hours after she was admitted to us. Then I had to deal with a co worker complaining cause she was in pain. If she hurt that bad why did she bother coming in.

Hey Joel, Haven't gotten to ride much lately, things have been crazy. My husband broke his foot and ankle last weekend on the dirtbike. Yesterday we had a motorcross here in Mitchell. My Son was the last of 11 that got hurt. He broke his arm. He was on the last lap and took a jump to hard and wrecked. We had a lot of broken bones we had to haul in. ER was not happy with us yesterday. I was happy we made it through branding with no major injuries, then this happened. My hubby is on crutches for a month, still might have to have surgery, and my son is in a cast for 6-8 weeks. Things are going to be busy around here. I am going to try and get some more pics posted though. take care and stay safe.
