PC area huh. I used to live out there and work in Lynn Haven. Great area, miss is sometimes but will be out there again soon to visit som friends. Have a good one hun.
as a matter of fact the main sponsor for the car im trying to sponosor is Firehouse. Still in the beginning stages but we just got one here in Dallas and i was so happy. And it is nice to meet you as well.
I wish you could know what it is like to search a burning bedroom for trapped children, flames rolling above your head, your palms and knees burning as you crawl, the floor sagging under your weight as the kitchen below you burns.
I wish you could comprehend a wife's horror at 3 in the morning as I check her husband of 40 years for a pulse and find none. I start CPR anyway, hoping to bring him back, knowing intuitively it is too late.
But wanting his wife and family to know everything possible was done to try to save his life.
I wish you knew the unique smell of burning insulation, the taste of soot-filled mucus, the feeling of intense heat through your turnout gear, the sound of flames crackling, the eeriness of being able to see absolutely nothing in dense smoke-sensations that I've become too familiar with.
I wish you could understand how it feels to go to work in the morning after having spent most of the night, hot and soaking wet at a multiple alarm.
I wish you could read my mind as I respond to a building fire "Is this a false alarm or a working fire? How is the building constructed? What hazards await me? Is anyone trapped?" Or to an EMS call, "What is wrong with the patient? Is it minor or life-threatening? Is the caller really in distress or is he waiting for us with a 2x4 or a gun?"
I wish you could be in the emergency room as a doctor pronounces dead the beautiful five-year old girl that I have been trying to save during the past 25 minutes. Who will never go on her first date or say the words, "I love you Mommy" again.
I wish you could know the frustration I feel in the cab of the engine, squad, or my personal vehicle, the driver with his foot pressing down hard on the pedal, my arm tugging again and again at the air horn chain, as you fail to yield the right-of-way at an intersection or in traffic.
When you need us however, your first comment upon our arrival will be, "It took you forever to get here!"
I wish you could know my thoughts as I help extricate a girl of teenage years from the remains of her automobile. "What if this was my sister, my girlfriend or a friend? What were her parents reaction going to be when they opened the door to find a police officer with hat in hand?"
I wish you could know how it feels to walk in the back door and greet my parents and family, not having the heart to tell them that I nearly did not come back from the last call.
I wish you could know how it feels dispatching an officers, fireman and EMT's out and when we call for them and our heart drops because no one answers back or to here a bone chilling 911 call of a child or wife needing assistance.
I wish you could feel the hurt as people verbally, and sometimes physically, abuse us or belittle what I do, or as they express their attitudes of "It will never happen to me."
I wish you could realize the physical, emotional and mental drain or missed meals, lost sleep and forgone social activities, in addition to all the tragedy my eyes have seen.
I wish you could know the brotherhood and self-satisfaction of helping save a life or preserving someone's property, or being able to be there in time of crisis, or creating order from total chaos.
I wish you could understand what it feels like to have a little boy tugging at your arm and asking, "Is Mommy okay?" Not even being able to look in his eyes without tears from your own and not knowing what to say. Or to have to hold back a long time friend who watches his buddy having rescue breathing done on him as they take him away in the ambulance. You know all along he did not have his seat belt on. A sensation that I have become too familiar with.
Unless you have lived with this kind of life, you will never truly understand or appreciate who I am, we are, or what our job really means to us...I wish you could though.
WHEN YOU SEE US COMING WITH LIGHTS FLASHING, MOVE OUT OF
THE WAY
QUICKLY.
Oh that stinks! Did you write "A Firefighter's Wish..." I read it and I really liked it. In any case stay safe and try to enjoy your day even though the weather stinks.
Check out Roll Call Groups and put some info about your Fire House in... Like to hear what your station is like, what you have as well as for number for firefighters as well as number of calls. Pass it around to your Firefighter Friends too....Easy way to located this group is go to my site and look at the bottom left. Short cut if you have a hard time locating this.
Also as a Training Officer, theres the Trainers Corner too. Like to hear some of what your doing for training or what areas need to be addressed...
Oh hey, sorry I didn't even realize you had posted a message. My day has been chill ,just relaxing and looking for some hobbies to do with my spare time lol. I hope you are having a nice evening. Any new exciting adventures? In any case hope you enjoy the rest of the day.
for the small town that i live in we do stay pretty busy, we have abt 4,000 in our town, and we run abt 900 calls a year, yes more medical but we have are share of structure fires, we have had alot this year withe the ice storm we had in january but the last couple of month we have had a bout four structure fires and though im a girl i have got to go in to make frst entery 3 times int he last couple of months, i love and enjoy that i get a chance just like the men, and i am equal, well have a good day.
Well i am about an hour and a half from Orange County. I have been doing nothing as far as fire wise. I was suppose to work on some things for the Zaca fire that started in Santa Barbara but I guess they postponed. I do have to attend a funeral on Friday for a fallen FF. He was 46 yrs old and died of cancer on the 26th. I pray for his family and that he rest in peace. Aside from that nothing new.
Thank you for saying all those wonderful things. It is hard to lose anyone that is like family and I am sorry to hear about your Chief. I was also looking at the current news in that Boston Fire. My prayers are going out to those who lost and for those FF that still are injured. It's been one of those weeks, but it's part of any career. I know there will be hard times but I still love what I do and I wouldn't give it up for anything in the world. Hope you have a wonderful day and be safe.
Hey you! What are you up to? Well just been chilling and working lol. Got to drive the logistics truck again, gonna go get my class "B" license, guess we have to have one now (since the truck has airbrakes). Tomorrow I have another assignment but only clerical and desk work :0( OH well guess gotta start somewhere right? lol. How are things going for you? How has the weather been? It's been scorching over here over 103 degrees. I know that doesn't sound like much but we are spoiled here in Cali. lol. K well take care and GOD bless.
Hey! No they don't have me assigned to a specific task, only when it's the Logistics then they do. Well it's not bad just take it slow and it's okay to be nervous. I know I was when I first started driving, but eventually you will get the hang of it. My major problem still is when I back up and have to align the trailer with the freaking truck. We have to have it plugged in because of the radio's inside but it's still my hardest part lol. Well hopefully today isn't so busy for you all. Take care and be safe.
Buenos Dias! Hope life is good on your part of the U.S. It has finally cooled down again, I was starting to think we were never gonna get a break from this heat. Take care and GOD bless.
LOL well if i were wealthy why not! Hope all is good for you. Nothing much here except having a 911 rememberence tomorrow at all the Fire Stations in Ventura County. To remember all our fallen brothers and all of those innocent people who died. Well gotta run but stay safe and GOD bless.
Hey what's up...things on my end are pretty steady. Nothing much as far as fire activities...just doing a couple of educational programs on prevention of fire. Other than that not much...I guess I would have to live in an area like Los Angeles to see more action. In any case, I have to get ready for Math class tonight so I will let you go...be safe and GOD bless.
Good Morning,
How are things going for you? Things are ok over here...rained most of the weekend..but it was much needed rain. Be safe and GOD bless...
I'm stationed at Thomas Drive No. 1. We are opening a new station in District 6, on the west end of the beach. There are plans to open the Youngstown/Bear Creek station in the future, but no time soon.
