I am a certified Master Chaplain and has worked within the fire chaplaincy since 1998. I currently serves as a chaplain for the Forest Bend Vol. Fire Department and has also worked on response teams for local, state, and national disasters. I specialize in PTSD, Injured Emergency Worker Care and LODD preparation and aftercare.
I serve as the Presiding Officer on the Governor’s Advisory Panel for the Star of Texas Awards. I am also the Director for the Texas LODD Task Force/NFFF LAST Team, an administrator and instructor for the Federation of Fire Chaplains, and a peer advisor for the SOAR program at Shriner's Hospital in Galveston. I am the Public Information Officer for the IAFC- Safety, Health & Survival Section.
Previously, I have worked as an industrial firefighter in Antioch, California and in Houston, Texas until I was injured in a structure fire in 1997. I also served as a volunteer firefighter. I received my fire, rescue, EMS, and instructor training at Solano College in Fairfield, California, and Texas A&M in College Station, Texas.
I have spoken at numerous events, churches, and conventions regarding my story as well as on emotional and spiritual topics that affect emergency workers. I also teach classes on
preparing for line of duty deaths and injuries, notifications, firefighter safety and LODD prevention and beyond CISD
I started out as an Explorer. I then became an industrial firefighter and EMT. I was also a volunteer firefighter. I am now a chaplain and the President of Firefighter Ministries, a non-profit organization that takes care of the spiritual, physical and emotional needs of the emergency services.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
The friendships, the family, and the nature of the job
Just running through my "friends" list to say hi and see how everyone is. It's not called networking if you don't work, huh? Your site looks great; I've got to try and do something different on mine other than the basic "stone". Anyway, hope all is well in lovely Houston. I liked the whole blog about your first time driving the BRT, very funny stuff...
Be sure to check out the groups page to find some that may relate to you, easily post/upload pictures and videos, start discussing topics in the forums, write your own blog and of course, invite all of your friends and fellow responders to Firefighter Nation. You can use the 'invite' tab at the top to send a note to you e-mail contacts, or post a bulletin on your MySpace or Facebook profile.
Have a great weekend and thanks again for being part of our social network!
Hi Wendy,
Thanks for the add, it sounds like your a very busy girl, I admire and appreciate what you do. I just taught my students about critical incident stress debriefing and why it is so important for the overall mental health and longevity of emergency responders. Keep up the good work,
Take care....
Hi Wendy,
Your profile was one of the first I ran across when I signed on. Your story will help others see what is really important in life. My wife and I have 5 adult children and recently adopted a 8 year old daughter and 10 year old son; You will be blessed through your adoption.
God Bless,
rex
Unfortunately that "I" storm out in the Atlantic right now has a bead on us. You won't hear that from any of the hurricane center people or anything.
I know this of course, because I am on vacation next week and invariably, when I am looking forward to vacation, something tries to threaten that. Like a storm, for instance.
wendy,
a year ago in may i was diagnosed with lukemia (cml) it was treatable with meds with possible complete remission. well the wonder drug didnt work exactly how it was supposed to and now i am in need to have a bone marrow transplant. im asking for all of gods people to pray for me and my family. iknow GOD is still the great pysician. i just found out i have a rare dna type which makes it hard to find a doner. thanks for the support. brian
Methinks it has another agenda. It must have heard I was going away. Forcasters said last night that the storm "is staring down the barrel of a gun". I liked that analogy, but apparently the storm is hitting some upper level sharing winds and they thought it would end up going out to sea. We shall see (I was going to use a lame pun like "sea" there, but it was very poor).

Thanks for the add! It's always nice to get in touch with other chaplains, especially females! May God Bless you with your ministry. If you ever want to talk, feel free to be in touch :-)!
Wendy, tried to meet up with you this past weekend at lunch on Sunday. I traveled to the NFFF event with Chief Delia. You did great this past weekend and loved your blessings. My family I escorted was commeted on how you touched them with your wonderful words.
Ya know, I thought about joining and would really like to, but the money just isn't there. I know that my Company has the money, but I definitely know they wouldn't sponsor my membership.
I was seeing if there is another organization that they might sponsor me for... like the one for Catholic Firefighters or Christian Firefighters.

we did start the foster care to adopt but when we was told we couldnt leave the child with anyone that was not certified for any reason. they told us that if one of our kids would get hurt we would have to take the foster child to the hospital with us. and what really got my husband and me was we was told we couldnt travel to go camping.

Your NFFF Memorial photos are great. What a tremendous experience that must have been.
We have common interests in LODD prevention and preparation.
I'd love to read your "story" as you mentioned. Do you have it posted here or elsewhere?
