Why I Joined Fire/EMS
My grandpa was a Capt with Garfiled County Fire Dist #1 for many years before he passed away, when I was very young. So When I was 17 I joined the same dept that he was on. Alot of the guys that were on when I joined was on when he was on. They would tell me stories of some of the things he did or would do. I guess he was a big stickler on having the higbees lined up just prefectly. So I have been going strong since then. My cousin also was a firefighter for many years. So as they say its in the blood.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
Helping other people and the satisfaction that you get when you know you just helped someone out.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Volunteer Recruitment and Retention.
Budgets.
The list goes on and on...

I see we're nearly neighbors! I love your wildland pictures. Any of those happen to be the fire out near Finely this summer?
  • Michele

Benton County. Benton County. Benton County??? Hmmmm? You wouldn't happen to know a firefighter named Barry Orth would you?
  • Michele

The Finely fire had my looking twice since my district goes so close to Hwy 730. It's so hard to tell how close some fires are just by looking at the smoke. Before I could get a visual on the actual fire, I was kinda worried that something big was happening yet again in Juniper Canyon. Send some pics if you get the chance. I'd like to see them.
Is Barry no longer with Benton City? He was in my class at the National Fire Academy a year ago but I've kind of lost touch with him.

Hey neighbor!! All is well here. Temps have been cooler despite lack of notable moisture. Almost out of the woods, so to speak, for fire season.

Had a nice quiet weekend...pretty normal.

great to hear from you - keep in touch.
  • Phillip

Hey Danny, how are things your way? Thanks for the comment , hope you have a great weekend.
    talk to ya later
  • Maygin

Well it started off good with a field fire on my road and then ended bad with a funeral that we had to dress up in our whites with our mourning band on and put black drape on our trucks...
  • Maygin

Even though I live deep in redneck territory I have yet to be to a mud bog...and it is hot as all holy hell here. The heat is suffocating me and I feel like Im wading through water when I put my turnout gear on for a call.
  • Maygin

Thanks but Im not sure I am unfortunatly when my work set up my schedule they forgot the fact that I may need sleep and then I have duty Wednesday and school Mon-Fri. So hopefully Wednesday will be quiet so I can catch up on missed sleep, showers, and food....anyways hope you have a great week to babes.

  • Michele

Hi Danny! Are you enjoying our Indian Summer? I'm so confused. Last night I got so hot in turnouts while doing an extrication training. It felt like summer again! Who would have guessed in we'd have weather like this in mid Oct?
Well, enjoy your week my friend!
  • Michele

Take me! Take me! Take me! I've been watching video footage of a big fire in my old stomping grounds. Makes me long to go back and fight those kinds of fires again.
  • Joe Totero

Doin good here, Bro. Watching the fires in CA & praying for rain! I'm thankful we don't have fires like that in PA. We just burn down blocks, old mills, factories, etc. I'd rather be in a burning building than a burning forest. My hat is off to you guys! Stay safe & hope for rain.
  • Michele

*Sigh* It's tough being the one left behind. Absolutely nothing is happening in my district right now. But now that I've said that...lol
Have a great weekend my friend!
  • Maygin

Ah it was pretty sucky. Was on the gutbox ALL weekend. Managed to talk some into pt refusals though, its my mad skills. So it was long and boring and irratating the only good thing was I skipped out for a while on sunday to attend the Celtic Festival and ate Irish food and whats nots..

  • Michele

    Hi Danny,
I hope everyone made it back okay. I've heard they're expecting more Santa Ana winds and have deployed engines to stage in strategic spots. I'm headed to CA tomorrow and I'm sure I'll see some of the burned areas since I'm spending the holiday down near SanClemente Beach. I'm headed back to visit my family and old friends for the week. Hopefully, things up here will be uneventful while I'm gone, especially since we've received our first snow today. Woohoo!!!
Take care and have a great Thanksgiving my friend!
  • Laurie

Thanksgiving was hectic at work but nothing to complain about. Hope yours was good. have a great weekend and be safe

lol!! Your comment about the ice reminded me of a call we ran that turned into three by the time we were done a couple of days ago. We got toned out for a MVA on moncuin creek about 9 in the morning and jumped in the engine and went down there to find a guy who slid on the ice and hit the guardrail nothing to major except that another person rear-ended him while we were standing there getting his information. Then our EMS coordinator comes down in his government issued white with blue stripes SUV hits the bridge and spins out slamming into the guardrail! lol he jumped out and I have never seen him cuss so bad in my life. lol. He kept saying and I saw the black ice! I saw it and hit it anyway!
  • Michele

No my district ends at the Oregon border and it doesn't reach 730 on the OR side. There is "no man's land" between me and 730 on my western boundaries.
    Stay safe my friend!

  • Andrea M. Walters

Hey there... things in my area are pretty busy but we got a nice quiet break for Christmas. how are things in your area?
  • Andrea M. Walters

Hey there... we've been going crazy here in the last few days too... two CPR calls two Thursdays in a row... once again we broke our record for the year... it's been raining here all day and it rained on Friday night but luckily we haven't had a wreck yet which is a good thing... but we've had a possible arson this weekend that caught an empty chicken house on fire so that was a long ordeal... take it easy and stay safe
  • Jojo

it was nice talking to you too! Have a happy new year!
  • Rob

HI Lieutenant, I noticed you had a few pics of the hanford fire. We mobilized on two Hanford fires this past year. Mile post 17 and one a week later I cant remember the incident name. Boy, that sand will about swallow you up huh? Also a fire in Finley, I believe it was tagged the Les Blaire fire. Nice to see a local on here.

  • BRENT RAINES

NO PROBLAME SO HOWS IT GOING
  • Michele

    Hi Danny,
Yeah, we got some wind but skirted around getting any real damage. Amazing since Athena and Adams were hit so hard, all within 10 miles of here. In the PM the county sheriffs called cuz we were the only area that he hadn't gotten any calls to all day. No news was good news!
  • Paul H

Hey Danny - greetings from Cheney! Nice to see fellow WA FF on board. You ever get up this way, give me a shout. I missed going on a Mob this summer to your area - truck was full by 5 mins!

You guys get much snow down your way? We got about 8"... Awesome play list - haven't heard Loverboy in awhile... brings back memories!

    Be safe.
