A first responder is someone who has been trained for a very basic overview of medical treatment. In Rhode Island (USA) it was a program that has been removed from the academy. We were allowed to give medical aid for most differant types of injuries. Now the requirement for medical care is EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) Basic, but since we don't perform much rescue, we are not required to complete the 140 hour class. Any more questions, I will be glad to answer, so please keep asking.
We also run with the EMS with our AED's for Cardiac patients. We can provide some basic care until the Medic's arrive and take over. At times when the rescue has difficulty obtaining a crew we run as a means of assistance until the mutual aid medics show up.
Hi Arno, I love to hear from fireman that are across the pond to see just how far behind the times we are. Especially when it comes to SCBA. It's hard to tell from the picture, but it loooks like you are using Draegers. Do you have any experience with the Interspiro Spirolite? I use thier Divator MkII, and would love to hear how it compares above the water. I would also like to hear something of your tactics, (positive pressure firefighting/fast attack protocol), and whatever else you have to offer. It has become apparent that we here in the USA are using some archane ways to do what we all do. Thanks, and welcome. Jim
Hey Brother...welcome to FFN. I travel to Belgium on my other career regularly. Have gone up to Den Nederlands a few times while Im there.
