Anyone have 2 balls and a cane I can borrow?
  • Mike Schlags (Captain Busy) Retd

My grandfather was a mason and now, I'm almost 55, am I too old to join myself? I know it takes years to go though the process but I'm not sure what the protocol is as far as joining. Is it by invitation or do I simply go to the nearest lodge and ask?
  • matt " MO" knott

    no your not

  • Big Jim

Michael, you are not too old to petition for masonry. Age alone is not a determining factor. Physical or mental infermity may cause rejection simply because of the physical and mental requirements of completing the degrees. If your mind and body are intact, there should be no problem with your age.
The "process" only takes as long as you make it. I have seen brothers go from petition to Master Mason in 6 months. This is rather unusual, but not impossible. The norm is usually 1-2 years, depending on how good your memory is and how often you meet with your teacher. To join, all you have to do is ask a Master mason for a petition, complete it and turn it in. The lodge will start the process after that. I'm sorry I didn't answer sooner. Take care and stay safe.

  • Mike Metz

I was directed to this site when I first started looking at rings. They are very well priced. The gold fired rings however will turn back to silver after a while.
