Thanks for the add to small town firefighters. I am a past fire chief from a small rural town of 2500 people called Rock Hall, Maryland and we covered 100 sq. miles of area to include the Chesapeake Bay, Chester River and its tributairies. Prior to moving onto bigger and better places and things I was involved in helping Rock Hall build a new 4.5 mil dollar firehouse and their regimen of fire equipment consist of 2 engines, pumper-tanker, tanker, truck, brush truck, utility vehicle, Command Vehicle, Co. Car, 2 ambulances, hazmat trailer, safety trailer and a boat. I would like to believe when I left in 2006 they were headed in a positive direction as far as training, safety, sop's, upkeep and replacement of gear and equipment and finding the best qualified people for the jobs without settling for 2nd best.

Howdy all,
I'm from Wild Peach which is a small rural community outside Brazoria, Tx.
We serve about 2000 people over a 20 sq. mi. area. I'm new to the fire feild but love it.
Verbena, Alabama...63 square miles of rural farming community with a population of roughly 2,000 +/-. We are located half-way between Birmingham & Montgomery in southeast Chilton County.
I suspect I should keep in better contact here. lol Hi everyone.. and "How's It Goin EH" to everyone else from Canada.
I am from the city of excitement. I mean.. the ORIGINAL City of Excitment.. FLIN FLON Manitoba Canada. We are a mining town. Copper, Zinc, Gold and probably lots more. Yep, we sink alot of shaft here! Stay safe everyone. I hope to get to know you all soon and quick. (send your cheques payable to me.. to...) oops, no soliciting here lol I forgot!

I was out of town, darn. All I know is it was a combined effort of Alaska Army Guard UH-60s, and NVAS. Seems the Russians could not get to evac the hurt soldier from their side, so they asked for aid from our side..
Between backing up the local fire department (volunteer), we also worked with the local regional hospital and the regional health aides (sort of a cross between EMT/CNA/Nurse and NP (low end)..
Health Aides: Locals mostly women, many also Army Guard members medics, who worked full time in their often home village. Not always an easy job, especially when its a family member (extended family), or they stop by your house and not the clinic, cause someone likes you? Telemedicine came fast/early due to distance, weather and time limits. Medivacs was often everything from snow machine to helicoptor/plane to other means (not heard of a dog sled one in a while?). Hard job to do!

I am Chief of Camptonville Volunteer Fire Department, located in Northern California. We are about 30 miles north of Grass Valley/Nevada City and about 90 north of Sacramento, with a population of around 700. There are 19 volunteers in the department, 17 of whom where not around 3 years ago. We get from 3 to 12 calls a month, depending on the time of year. Yearly average is about 50, mostly medical. Of the 19 volunteers, 7 are EMTs. We have come a long way in the last 3 years.
Hi everyone, I'm the Chief of Stockton VFD in Stockton, Ut. We have a small dept of 16 members and cover about 1000 people, 600 in Stockton and about 400 in the surrounding area. We respond to an average of 120 calls per year, a good mix between medicals and wildland fires.
Hello! I am a Captain with the Dade County R-4 RFPD in Greenfield, Mo. I am in charge of a small station where we have a tanker, an engine, and 3 personnel. In all we have three stations in our district with around 40 firefighters. Of course as with most volunteer departments you have maybe half that are active.
Both stations I am at are nothing but volunteer. In fact we only have a few stations in the county have 2 paid personnel on staff 24 hours. I think all stations should have at least 2 paid personnel at all times for public safety reasons. Then there will be staff on duty 24/7 to answer calls and the trucks can get in route immediatly.
Greetings from Picture Butte, Alberta.
I'm from a small rural combined service (fire/rescue and ambulance).
My Dept. consists of 23 volunteers. Most of us are EMR trained or higher, but no paramedics. We provide fire services to 3 other hamlets, our home town, and approximately 400 square miles of rural farming country. Our ambulance provides BLS services to that area and 2 other nearby communities. We have good working relationships with the communities that surround and support us.
