I have been in EMS for about 8 years now. I have been fighting fires for about a year but did my formal firefighting training in the U.S. Air Force back in 2003 and some in 2004.
Good to hear you have not regretted joining a brigade. We need more people like you Mike. Your active and your willing to put your life on the line to save people and property and for free. Volunteers are amazing in what they do and how they do it. Thanks for everything Mike.
In June I will have been a firefighter for 3 years. I am sure it would be longer than that if I had not left for the U.S. Army 10 days after high school. I think that the Army helped me prepare to be a firefighter in many ways and as you can see if you read any of my posts in the forums, I usually add what I can from my military experiences. I love everything about it and can't imagine myself not being a firefighter now that I've become one.
The military has also helped me in many ways and I think we all need a building block and lets face it, some things were tough while serving and we were pushed to do better and now we are better overall.
Me too Eric and Jason, the military have gave me the love for fire /ems service. Good thing our training director at that time modified our pre-mobilization training program inserting some rescue/disaster stuff. At that time our program is monotonous (for warfare, combat only). But the director wanted to try some stuff and make it more applicable to the present. His rationale is, war can happen in once in a lifetime but disaster... anytime.
During my training, the reservist came from all walks of life, including my classmate a founder of Makati City Rescue then soon evolve into the first EMS system in the country. I was fortunate to got to know that guy and there I got hooked. After my years in reserve, I looked for more and found one fire rescue unit and joined up.
BTW, FYI for Filipinos... my unit is "A" coy, 3rd Bn, 1303rd Bde, 131st RID Phil. Army back in 1994 to 1997.
i have been in fire-rescue-ems for about 10 years, lots of adrenalin gave it to me, saving lives is my best motto!!! taking up my training like, Urban Search and Rescue at NDCC instructed by the greatest USAR MIami Dade Fire & Rescue, Medical 1st Responder by our own FEPAG, DMS by NDCC, Emergency Medical Technician Basic @ UP-PGH LSTI and many more. So to all my Filipino Coutrymen be proud of it!!! Stay safe at all times!!!
