I was wondering if it was possible to gain more experience to join another fire department, while I am on a fire department. I am on a volunteer fire department, but I was going to go to the one in town to join with them since they get a whole lot more calls than my fire department does. Tell me what yall think. I don't have my EMT-B, yet, and I don't have my NFPA yet. So if yall have any ideas, please tell me.

its up to your time and schedule. Theres no reason you can't be on 2 companies, especially if one offers more or better training. Training is the one thing you should make a point to aquire in short order.
You need to think about it, one can never serve two masters at the same time and give them, and yourself 100%, some one is going to miss out and most of the time it would be you.
if the other department gets more runs and trains more, then you should join them and give 110% not 50% or less to two departments
just my two cents worth,
I agree Mike I was on two departments and wore myself down to nothing for a long time.
According to New York state law one can't be an active member of more than one FD at a time. There are ways around this, such as volunteering for Dept. A and working in district B and having a pre-approved mutual aid agreement in place between the chiefs of both departments. Lifetime members of one dept. often move and join other depts.

EMS is another matter, however and some belong to 2 or 3 squads at the same time just to raise their call volume and experience level.
ALSO DEPENDS ON THAT DEPARTMENTS POLICIES, FOR INSTANCE WHERE I LIVE THE DEPARTMENT WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO VOLUNTEER FOR ANOTHER STATION AND THE SAME GOES FOR THE REST OF THE COUNTY, AND THE IDEA IS IF YOU HAVE TIME FOR 2 THEN YOUR NOT PUTTING ENOUGH INTO THE FIRST MAKE A CHOICE AND GIVE IT 110%. AND BUSY IS NOT ALWAYS THE BEST. IHAVE A STATION NEAR ME THAT RUNS AROUND 600 CALLS A YEAR AND MINE ONLY ABOUT 330, I TRUST THE GUYS FROM MY STATION MUCH MORE AND OUR EQUIPMENT IS MUCH BETTER AS IS THE TRAINING
Thanks for yalls answers. I have alot of time on my hands. My department I am on with now so far we had gotten around 50 something calls. The other one I am wanting to join, they get called nearly every day. My department has training wed and sun. and the other one has it every monday. We hardly ever get any calls. I don't have a job, so I have all the free time I got.
I AGREE WITH MIKE IF YOU HAVE PAID DEPARTMENT AROUND GO JOIN ONE BUT IF YOUR GOING TO TRY A ND VOLUNTEER AT TWO YOUR GOING TO WEAR YOURSELF OUT AND BE OF USE TO NEITHER VOLUNTEER COMPANY BUT I SALUTE YOU FOR THE MOTIVATION BE TRUE TO ONE DEPARTMENT AND THEY WILL BE TRUE TO YOU AND TRAINING IS THE MOST IMPORTANT KEY TO THE FIRE SEVICE GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR DECISION AND STAY SAFE EVERYONE
