Sorry if this is the wrong place for this line of questioning.

I want to assist my small rural community by becomeing a part-time paid emergency worker. I enrolled in MFR, thinking that once I get past CPR and get my TB test and Hep-B shots I could do some ride alongs mid-course and get my feet wet, you know, to make sure I'm cut out for this sort of thing.

My question is, what next steps should I take? Should I simply call my local EMS/FD and ask to fill out an app? Also, for any of you paid part-timers, if you could share some of your experiences that might help me, I'd appreciate it, thanks.
