What "lucky" items do you carry to beat the odds?
Do you have a routine you always do? A phrase you use when on a call?
I Have on my pager one of my buttons from my first fire fighting tunic and I wear a Celtic cross, Are these good luck charms? I realy don't know, but I feel funny without them.
Inside my fire helmat taped to the underside I have a picture of my beautiful wife, and my 3 children. If something happens to me, I want them to be there with me, even if just a photo. I wear a St. Flourians medal because I believe in luck and faith. There isn't any one thing that can guarantee health or safety, but it never hurts to have a good luck charm
I carry an fifty cent piece in my pocket for luck. I know a lot of people do not believe in luck or gaurdian angels but awhile back something happened on the way to a call with my company and it makes you wonder. we were responding to a structure fire assisting a neighboring department and as we crossed a bridge and started up a grade a kid with no license or insurance was speeding and crossed the center line and struck us head on. the driver of our truck swerved to the right to try to miss him but it did not work. now you probably are wondering what the luck or angel thing was and here it is. We were responding to a structure fire and no own climbed into the jump seats. this is right before the outlawed riding the beaver tail. Well no one was in the seats and the motor for the car that hit us came up threw the passenger side jump seat. for use not to have any one in those seats heading for a structure fire was a mircale the guys for some reason a climbed on back the truck that day. Sorry to say the guy in the car did not servive and four fire fighters were injured but to this day it still amazes me about the seats.
I have a shamrock and St florene pin on the band on my helmet. I also met a very good man in my dept. which past away from diabetes, who was a very good friend of mine. I carry his dog tag in my turnout coat. As weird as it may seem i always feel that hes in there with me.
I never take off my Saint Florian necklace. My wife gave it to me when I first met her and she found out I was a firefighter. It's also been blessed by our local priest. But, that being said, after 14 years on the job, I realize that it's my training and equipment that keep me safe. Stay safe!
I believe my lucky charms are on the breakfast table in front of my 6 year old daughter......I do wear a St Florian medal.....I wear it because my daughter gave it to me and she asked me to wear it. She told me it would make her feel better if I did...and as all fathers will attest....I will do anything for her....if she asks something this small its the least I can do...in return for the missed meals, missed activities and the such.....Stay safe all...and always KEEP THE FAITH............Paul
i have a picture of my daughter taped to the inside of my helmet.i tell her i love her even if it is a picture.i say short prayer too.my daughter gave me a green rabbit foot.i take it off before i make entry,so i dont get it burnt.
I've always worn a pink hood. It's random, but its me. Everyone knows to look for that before they even look at my helmet. I wouldn't say its a good luck charm as much as its a habit... and I definately feel funny without it.. it just has the smell, and the black stains.. I suppose I should buy a new one.. ha.
