Yeah, but who decides who rides where?
It all depends on how the stations operate, for the longest time my volunteer department never had assigned seating the officer made the call, but he also based it off who is confident in getting the task done, as of now since we went into a county wide FP, we now have the assigned seating and we train regularly on each seat, we should be diverse in all engine company assignments as well.

Officer or most senior takes officers seat. Experienced guys in the middle newest on the out sides (hydrant and break man). We all pretty much know who goes where. We only have about 10 active people with 1 jr, 2 ems only. Most of us have been around awhile.
