Wildland Firefighting and type 1 diabetes

So, in Queensland Australia the local government has been standing down all operational rural firefighters with type 1 diabetes.
Does your service/department have any issues such as this?

I have been in the local fire department for six and a half years, and I myself was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes 3 years ago. However, I have been able to keep myself well under control and the fire department officers have no problem with me carrying out normal firefighter duties. But, if I even have the slightest feeling that my blood sugar is too high or too low, I make the decision myself to make it known to the officer on scene and stand down until everything is back under control.
