New York Firefighter Charged with Arson

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. — A volunteer firefighter in a suburban New York village has been accused of intentionally setting a fire and then joining his colleagues in putting it out.

Trent Bronner, of Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., was arraigned on a felony arson charge on Wednesday and taken to the Westchester County jail.

The Journal News reports that the 21-year-old Bronner has volunteered with the Sleepy Hollow fire department for three years.

The department's web site listed Bronner as responding to the most fire calls from April 2010 to March 2011. The name of his lawyer could not immediately be determined.

The March 20 fire caused extensive damage to a two-family house. No one was injured.

We as the fire service community must demand harsher punishments for those in the service found guilty of these crimes. If guilty he should be given even more time than a regular citizen would get. As a volunteer service we must start doing a better job of who we are accepting and start policing ourselves better!
