9-Year-Old Boy Saves 2-Year-Old Sister With CPR

A 9-year-old boy found his sister floating face down in a pool. While his mother and grandmotherly frantically called for help, the boy calmly went over and started to initiate CPR on the toddler, successfully reviving her.

A great story. Although I don't think this is the way people should learn CPR, it seems that this time it helped. Had the boy not even know how to do CPR at all, the little girl may not be alive today.

This is why during fire prevention week when our dept. go to the schools we throw in a little ems part because you never know what the little minds will soak up. Two years ago we did the fire drills and talked about fire safety/prevention, then we talked about the heimlich maneuver and how to recognize someone who is chocking. Wouldn't you know it a year later a girl(approximate 11 yrs old) had her little brother choking on some food and she did the heimlich on him. Food was dislodged by the time we got there and the little brother was breathing. We've done bleeding control and other things since then but I tell our firefighters little kids may forget their school work but they'll always remember what the firefighters in the big red trucks told them.

Great job by the kid, although I agree with you, might not be the best way to learn CPR... but at least he tried something and it helped. Maybe the mom will take a 3 hr course and learn how to do CPR. Glad the girl is alive!
