CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Cedar Rapids firefighters will be giving flood-damaged homes scheduled for demolition a little push.
Firefighters will begin training on select flood-damaged homes starting Tuesday.
The Fire Department says in a news release that the training will continue through the spring as the demolition of the homes damaged in the 2008 floods continues.
Training will consist primarily of exterior operations, including cutting holes in the roof for ventilation, door and wall breaching techniques and other activities typically used to ensure a fire is extinguished. No live fire training will be done.
Officials say the type of training that will be conducted cannot be performed in a classroom or on a simulator and will provide invaluable hands-on practice for firefighters in a non-emergency situation.
