Hello Everyone,

This week blog topic is going to be the process of applying and researching the departments you want to work for.

So think about any questions, concerns or frustrations you’ve had or are having with completing the application or finding departments who are hiring. Then post them on my blog. I will post answers to these questions along with suggestions that will help you along the way.

Have a great week!

The Application:

The application is really the “first impression” of you. This is that first step in sell yourself to your potential employer. Many take the application too lightly. Statistically 10% of the candidates never make it past this part of the process! That’s just crazy! You’re out of the running before the written test!

So first thing first, start working on the application early. Waiting until the night before it’s due is not the time to try and gather information.

Next, follow all the directions. Don’t be “disqualified” because you didn’t complete the employment section properly, or didn’t attach you current EMT certificate.

Last, be through and neat. Again, this is your first impression. This application will follow you all the way to the Chief interview. During the oral boards the interviewers will usually review your application before or after your interview so it needs to be complete and easy to read.

Have a great week!
