I'm counting down the days til I take my written and physical tests for a local FD. Originally I thought the physical would be like the CPAT in the sense of being timed. However the goal is to just finish all 8 obstacles and is NOT timed.....search and rescue 50' w/ blacked out mask, hoist hose roll over 2nd floor balcony and back down, carry apartment bundle two flights of stairs and back down and climb a 24' and 60' ladder just to name a few. I have been running as much as I can to ensure good cardio fitness and lifting weights. But I am having a little trouble with the practice written tests in which I'm not scoring consistently. Either way I've never had to go through a volunteer testing process because I was deemed compentent by my dept from jr. FF years with them. With both of these components,

how have you prepared for a volunteer testing process?

what did you do well on?

 what you had trouble with?

ESSENTIALS OF FIREFIGHTING, 5th ed., IFSTA, 2008

If you know your Firefighter 1 stuff, you should be good to go. If you're counting down the days before your test, it may be a little late to start cramming.
