ISHPEMING TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Authorities say the bodies of an 82-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man were found inside a smoke-damaged home that was the scene of a fire in recent days in the Upper Peninsula.

The Marquette County sheriff's department says in a statement that authorities were called Monday after relatives went to the Ishpeming Township home to check on the residents. The department says a fire apparently started sometime between Friday and Monday afternoon, but the blaze extinguished on its own.

The sheriff's department says the inside of the home had severe smoke damage. The department and the state police fire marshal's division are investigating.

The sheriff's department says additional information wasn't available Tuesday morning.
