INDIANAPOLIS - One person is in serious condition after a fire on Indianapolis’ south side.

The fire broke out around 4 a.m. Tuesday in the 1800 block of S. Meridian Street. Fire fighters say a neighbor, 47-year-old James William Nevilles was inside with the homeowner, 50-year-old Lora Davis, at the time.

Nevilles was able to get out okay, but he told fire fighters Davis was able to get out of the house, but then went back in to get her pets.

Paramedics took Davis to Wishard hospital with smoke inhalation.
