My department has a Telesquirt that has jump seats equipped with airpacks (not to be ridden in, but for storage once on scene).  I want to know how you feel about jump seats.  Is the old fashioned bar good enough for riding now a days?  How about installing seat belts, would that make it acceptable?  Last, I am wondering if anyone has the "cab encloser thing" over the jump seats to make it NFPA compliant and the pro's and con's.  Thanks in advance.

We have an old cabover pumper with jump seats the only time they get used is when we our in parades and even then we require the man saver bars to be used
Current NFPA 1901 standards require four-door cabs. However, the older apparatus were "grandfathered" for a while, as long as the jump seats had both seatbelts and the mansaver bars. I don't have the reference handy, but I believe that the exemption has expired.

Has your department considered retrofitting the existing engine with a cab extension and rear doors?
If your current engine is in good shape, retrofitting the cab with the extension will be much less expensive than a new apparatus.

Contact the Halfway, MD VFD. They have converted several canopy cab apparatus to full, four door apparatus over the years. Engine 26-3 ran as their tanker in the 1970's when I was a volly in the same county. It's been rehabbed at least once, and has had the 4-door conversion.
We haven't looked at converting it to 4 door. Nor do we ever plan to transport people back there. A few of us had been talking down there so I figured I'd see what you guys had to say about it. If there are ever talks about conversion I'll definitely remember the reference, thanks.
