GREEN BAY, Wis. - A Green Bay firefighter is calling a 12-year-old girl a hero after she helped rescue six other children from a two-story house fire on the city's east side.

Green Bay Press-Gazette reports Shaunda Howard noticed a fire in the kitchen's back wall about 1:20 p.m. Saturday and helped the other children safely out the home.

Fire Department Battalion Chief Ed Jarosz says she did a great job, especially since there were no adults home at the time.

He says the fire was put out in about 10 minutes. No one was hurt.

The department estimates the fire caused about $65,000 in damage. The cause is under investigation.
