I'm running into a problem.  I went to emt basic school in texas and didnt get my state cert because i was told i only need my nremt.  Now I need my texas in order to switch to ohio, but I have to get fingerprinted in texas to do that.  Can I just take the ohio emt test and get certified even though my school was in texas?

I had my background check done. NREMT didn't have a fingerprint requirement.
Hi Trey, I thought that once you took NREMT it was reconized in any state however, one of our firefighters who has been a state EMT in the past took NREMT instead of state recertification and was told this did not mean anything as NREMT is not reconized in NY state, and in order to continue to be certified he must take NYS EMT recertification. I think if I were you I would contact NREMT and ask them to clarify what NR is supposed to do for you, unfortunately I don't beleive they are going to have any control over a specific state.Sorry to tell you this but like I said I just recently found this out. If the state you want to work in now will allow you to challenge written & practical exam if it were me I would do that. Have a great day & good luck.
Some states dont recognize NREMT but I checked and Ohio does recognize it. I have to get a little more training before it will work, but thats no problem. I applied for Texas today, and will apply for reciprocity after I receive that. I talked to some people today and figured things out. Thanks for your help!
