yes it was once called a curtosey light and it is still a privilege to be able to use one but it does make the difference i have tested and proven this time and time again unfortunately my new dept does not allow the use of lights in pov's while responding only on scene of a MVA and thats for warning and safety that is cause of one bad apple many many years ago thanks putz
In oklahoma before you cross the state line theres a big sign that says pull over for emergencey veichles it the law. I personaly have seen this law enforced when a car didnt yeild for us and the trooper behind us( he wasin running code) pulled them over so I say yes they should.
I agree totally, here in Texas the speed is no more than 5mph over posted whether you are in a truck or your pov. I am divided on this issue, no matter how much we stress, there is always going to be members abusing the use of courtesy lights, I know with my dept, the city says that in order to run hot with lights on pov you also have to have a siren as well. Then you are considered to be in an emergency vehicle and can be covered by the city insurance. I wouldn't mind have lights on my pov for when I showed up on scene. But again people abuse them, like Charles said earlier you are not helping anybody if you end up in a MVA causing resources to be divided between two scenes.
DIDO!!!!
As do I.
