I'm interested in knowing if anyone has some good information on some contract job.  I only know a little about them and heard of a couple of places, but i'd like to know a little. If anyone has some info on jobs they've been on or jobs available or good contact info i'd love to hear it. I'd also like to know some individuals takes on their deployments, how the work  went and what was entailed, relationships back home, work environment, pay, or benefits. I guess just any info at all would be great!

There a few here...

Generally the pay is good after a couple of seasons and the work is great.
The contractors get the same training and carry the same red card, but for some reason the fed firefighters tend to look down upon contractors. Maybe they feel encroached upon. Never saw any solid reason why that should be happening. I've been both fed and contract. When we were contractors we worked hard to maintain all the same standards. That's the key to gaining respect from coworkers anyway.
Good luck.
The wildlandfire.com/jobs is a great place to look. ALso call the local F.S. office. They have a list of all contractors. I myself have worked bothsides. And Norm is right for soem reason the feds like to look down on you. I guess you would have to look at it as a vol ff and a career ff. Which I myself do not like. We all have the same training. Some contractors will train you and get you your red card. I worked Helipad ARFF when I did it. And it was great. Back then deployments where 3 weeks. As for what is entailed in your work. It would be on your strike team leader, crewboss. As for the back home that would be on your call. For me it was fine. But others have had issues with it. Just make sure you look into the company good.
Good point. When you check out a company look into their safety record somehow. Maybe you could do that through NWCG, National Wildfire Coordinating Group, Boise, ID. Another place to look would be the regional coordinating center in the region where the company is located.
Check out NWCG's web site anyway for info on training.
