TAMPA, Fla - A fire at the Chase Suites Hotel on Rocky Point caused over $1 million dollars, fire officials say.

The hotel was evacuated Sunday morning when the 2 alarm fire broke out around 7:30am.

Smoke and flames were showing from the second floor apartment of the two story building when fire crews arrived on scene.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control in about 35 minutes

Fire officials say the fire could have been much worse as the buildings in the complex are very close together

About 50 people were evacuated.

Four apartments sustained fire and smoke damage and 2 apartments had water damage in the 8 unit building.

The hotel is relocating the residents affected by the fire to other unoccupied units in the complex.

There were not injuries reported and investigators are still trying to determine the cause.

That is great. That the firefighters got recognized for a job well done. And nobody was injured.
