RookieLZ, I think your pictures look fine, especially the night one. Night time photography at fire scenes I think are the hardest. As for suggestions, one think I like to always say is, dont concentrate so much on whats burning as a individual subject, add in the second and third most important parts of this incident, the firefighters and fire apparatus. I always like a shot with the responding departments rig, with name showing in the picture to immediatly identify the image and where its from.
Your burning building is nice, but it can be from anywhere. Add in Las Vegas Engine 1 for example to the picture and now the picture tells a better story.
Keep up the good work, we're all still learning each time we take the camera out of the bag.

ROOKIELZ & Steve Roth - Sorry for the late reply, just found and joined FFN. Basically I am new to this photo stuff too, even though I started running fires in the late 60's. I also am just learning. I too am looking for better ways to take photos. Type of photos, what shots are good, and so on. My biggest problem is night photos. I am getting better at it and take most of my night shots without flash.

I started taking photos for the local volunteer departments so they could have photos for their web sites. Now they look for me at calls and training. I try to get both equipment and firefighters in my photos whenever possible. Course I have been well known to almost all the firefighters for years, so that helps.

Sounds like Steve would like my profile photo of Engine 37 responding. Just caught the engine coming up over a hill, sun light was just right and perfect background, I think it is one of my better photos.
