HOLLYWOOD, Fla. - An off-duty City of Miami firefighter has died after authorities say the motorcycle he was riding collided with another vehicle in South Florida.

The crash happened Thursday evening in Hollywood.

Police say the firefighter's motorcycle collided with a 2001 Ford Mustang. He was taken Memorial Regional Hospital, where he died. The driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The identity of the firefighter has not been released.

my heart goes out to the faimlys and friends
The firefighter was Leslie Luma, who had not been back in the States for very long following a rescue mission to Haiti. He was part of the USAR FLTF2 team - and a vital one at that. He was a rescuer as well as a translator (he was Haitian-American). He left behind his wife and four children, other family, friends, team members, and fellow firefighters. Leslie was a man loved by all those who knew him ... the world has lost a very bright light.

It is a horrific thing to have happened. To know it is attributed to a child (to date, still not charged!) who was driving her car while high on drugs (some prescriptions including Xanax and Lexapor adding to that ingesting nitrous oxide shortly before crash) ... there are no words to describe the feeling this brings.
