I was first on scene POV at this fire. It was about a half mile from my house. It is a mutual aid area so my dept. and the neighboring city dept. responded.
I feel so bad because the fire was already too hot by the time I arrived. I couldn't safely get close to the house to try to alert the occupants since I did not have any gear with me. There was light winds and they were blowing towards me and pushing the heat towards me too much. The first engine and ambulance arrived about 3 minutes after me. I'm amazed that anyone made it out of this fire.
The fire appeared to have started at the back of the house on the Northwest corner. The detached garage was saved with minor damage.
It was a horrible feeling to not be able to do anything to alert/help the occupants.:(
