Florida Medic Has Leg Amputated After Ambulance Accident.

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - A St. Lucie County paramedic has lost his leg after a sport utility vehicle crashed into the ambulance he was riding in.

Christopher Doyle says he can't remember the Tuesday afternoon crash, but he's glad to be alive.

Authorities say the ambulance was making a left turn at a Fort Pierce intersection when 63-year-old Germaine Lindor entered the intersection and hit the passenger side of the ambulance.

Lindor was pronounced dead at the scene.

Doyle and the ambulance driver, St. Lucie County firefighter William Hines, were taken to a nearby hospital. Hines was treated and released, but Doyle had to have his left leg amputated below the knee.

Police were still investigating the crash.

That always worries me about our EMT'S when they have to ride in the back unrestrained. Hope they recover both quickly.
