Check out the link to this video of a backdraft that injured one firefighter.   I don’t know that there is a lot that could have been done because it is such a short clip.

But, it is important to look for the signs and read the signs of smoke conditions that could indicate a backdraft.

Let me know what you think and stay safe out there.

Thats amazing how it blew the whole D side of the structure down.
WOW!!! You're right hard to critique a video that is so short and devoid of information, however that being said notice the firefighters with Nomex skin who don't require PPE.
Not watching this live or in HD, were they doing PPV?
Actually John, it looks like it was the chimney that collapses there, not the entire side.
I tried slowing the clip down as much as possible, but as mentioned it is short and difficult to critique. We are also only privy to one side of this and don't know what conditions are showing on the back side of the structure. It appears the FD was on scene for a little time at least, there is a vent fan in the door and ladders thrown. Looking at the smoke conditions, it is difficult to assess the warning signs from the short clip. You don't see if the windows are really darkened, you can't see "puffing" really, but there is a good example of the "yellowish" tinge colored smoke as the backdraft occurs.

It may be possible that the PPV was not being properly done, it is possible there was not an adequate exaust for PPV. Just a theory because we don't see the backside of the structure.
I checked out the vid again and your right it does look like the chimney. Good observation brother
