I am currently in class for firefighter 2 certification, I had no problems with mod A but I am a little nervous about mod B, I'm right handed but have to vent a roof using an ax with right handed and left handed swings, I was wondering if anyone has advice about what type of techniques work best for someone with very little experience swingin an ax left handed

Practice, practice, practice...

But seriously, if i was ventilating and had to swing LH, I'd just turn around on the roof ladder and swing RH!

Otherwise we might have a Line Of Duty Amputation!
Ditto. Only practice can prepare you for that!
lol you will be fine man its not that hard. If you are worried about it practice practice practice and you will be fine.
Short controlled strokes, vs a firewood chopping technique. Also use a flathead axe and use the blunt side vs the blade to chop a hole. (the blade can have tendancy to get stuck, the blunt side doesn't)
thanks I will keep that in mind, I appreciate all the replies so far
Thanks for all the advice, it paid off very well, I passed all evolutions for mod B
Just having just completed the Firefighter II course, i would agree practice as much as you can,
