NEW YORK - Police are investigating a report of a brawl outside a Brooklyn bar that involved off-duty firefighters and patrons.

Four men claim they were assaulted by a group of rowdy firefighters Friday evening at the Salty Dog in the Bay Ridge neighborhood.

Their lawyer, Joe Tacopina, said Thursday that the men were roughed up and plan to file a civil suit. Firefighters say they were defending themselves.

Police are examining surveillance video from the evening.

Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano said he was working with police on the investigation but would reserve judgment until all the facts were in.

The incident was first reported by local station NY1.
