Have a second means of escape when operating on the roof.

When operating on the roof, make sure as the crew operating on it, and/or the officer on the ground, that there is a secondary means of escape.

As we can see in this picture, the primary means could get cut off by fire.

It is prudent and appropriate to put an additional ladder on the opposite side of this building for the crews to exit from.

When this crew made the roof that fire over the front stoop may not have been there nor suspected.  While making the cut they could have lost their primary escape route.

Speak up if you see things like this, it could make all the difference in the world.  This has to be done to keep everyone safe.

Is there anything else you see that might need to be addressed?

Most importantly, this is to illustrate the need for a secondary escape.

Take care, think, and stay safe.

What we can't see is the C side of this structure, so they "may" have thrown a second ladder there and have an adequate escape route. The other thing i see is they have a charged line approximately 4 feet from the weatherhead for power to the structure. Definitely something to be aware of! Also, in addition to the line they have for the vent crew, it looks like a 2.5 has been deployed into the structure, but no one seems to be addressing the extension into the porch roof. And one individual appears to be operating beneath this hazard zone!

Might be time to pull the attack team out until this extension can be contained. It has been drilled in to my head countless times: "NEVER let the fire get behind you!"

I see a 1-1/2 or 3/4 up the pitch and over the peak, I wonder what that's doing up there. For whatever purpose it serves, that's a potential big problem if it get kicked on when unmanned...something to look out for.
I agree with Ralph......... there may well have been good reason to get up there and vent that roof but it is now venting by it self. High time to pull that crew since they now serve no usefull purpose and are definatly in harms way as they say.
In our area some of the homes are converted summer homes that were converted to year round habitation often in the D.I.Y. manner with no attention to codes. We are always aware of this and a safety officer is charged with watching roof evolutions so we terminate early and not trust the hometown construction style too far.
