A long time ago I had a 13 y/o on a roof. Those were the days.
NO! However, there are plenty of things a 13 yr old can learn that can be taught in an explorers program that do not require the child to risk his life. He can learn CPR, fire safety, first aid, etc. He should never be allowed to perform fireground activities at that age. In fact, I would not allow a child to ride along at that age. There is just not anything about a fatal car crash, a shooting, or the loss of someone's life or belongings that a child needs to see. I wouldn't want my son or daughter to become as warped at such an early age as the firefighters I work with.
What does joining the Boy Scouts Explorer program have to do with a 13 year old being on a roof? They are not firefighters. Contact your local Explorer/Department post if you have questions about what explorers and juniors can and can't do in your locale. If your department is putting a 13 year old on the roof during a fire you've got other issues :)

Thread closed...we need a break from posts about what juniors can and can't do :) ..please search the forums for past posts.

Thanks
