So, how do you like an organizing organization like ACORN getting FIRE Act money?
In this case, it is in the Fire Prevention and Safety category, but the New Orleans branch managed to apply for and was successful in their application to the tune of $997,402.00.
Do you really think that an organization that has been charged with voter registration fraud and other, recent criminal acts should receive hard-to-get FIRE Act money?
Did I mention that ACORN owns FIFTY MILLION DOLLARS worth of property in New York City?
Not bad for a “not-for-profit” organization.
Wake up little sleepy heads.

John:
As a point of clarification, the money ACORN received was just THREE WEEKS ago-9/04/09.
I saw the first mention of it on 9/17/09.
And I believe in partnering with other viable community organizations-not community organizers.
Would ACORN spread the word on fire safety or their usual docturne?
We partner with our communities in many ways up to and including sharing our resources. After all; they helped to pay for them.
Gripe?
I don't "gripe".
I put it out there and trust me when I say that I do everything that I can to do something about it.
But, getting the word out is the first step.
However that is characterized.

Well let's just see how exactly that money was spent...

I'm sure ACORN keeps records on where federal funds are distributed... oh wait how much of that went to Democratic candidates last year? How much actualyl went to detectors and alarms.

If they actually installed them and did something good, I'll bite my tongue. I want to see records.
The young kids to whom I was referring are James O'Keefe, a 25-year-old independent filmmaker, and his collaborator, 20 year old Hanna Giles. They are the ones who made a series of video tapes of ACORN representatives offering advice on falsifying tax reports and loan applications in order to obtain mortgage loans for a brothel. These were released on the web and subsequently aired by Fox News.

I agree, Scott Harshbarger is a joke as an independent investigator.
Well since they are a not for profit organization, the records should be open to view by whomever wants to. Good luck in your search.

I'm not defending ACORN here, I'm just taking a different side of a debate and thinking outside the box. I won't be providing any numbers or what the funds were used for, because personally I just don't care that strongly about it.
Brennan Griffin, executive director of the ACORN Institute, said the group received a $450,484 fire prevention FEMA grant last year for a pilot program to help low- and moderate-income families in five cities: Providence, R.I.; Hartford, Conn.; Washington, D.C.; Albuquerque, N.M., and Wilmington, Del. The purpose, he said, was to "conduct in-home assessments of fire safety issues in the houses of low- and moderate-income families."

Art, this is the post I was basing the information on that this was LAST year, this was taken from another similar thread as this. If this was a new grant, then yeah, I agree they should NOT get the money.
I'll stand by my other comments though that there are other organizations that should be able to receive fire prevention grants other than just fire departments. I'll also stick by the rapport established by such organizations that can be a link for the fire dept to promote a safety message.
So, when added to this year's money, that is almost a million and a half bucks in the last two years.
That's a lot of batteries!
Hey; we're just discussin' here.

CALL YOUR FEDERAL REPRESENTATIVES GUYS... IF ENOUGH ATTENTION IS FOCUSED ON THIS B.S. THE CONGRESS WILL INCLUDE THIS LATEST SHAM IN THEIR CURRENT EFFORTS TO DEFUND ACORN.

PEOPLE... AT LEAST A GROWING NUMBER.. ARE GETTIN FED UP WITH ALL THIS ACORN MESS. THAT MILLION DOLLARS SHOULD BE REDISTRIBUTED TO SOME OTHER LIGIT ORGANIZATIONS THAT WOULD ACTUALLY MAKE SOMETHING OF THE INTENDED PURPOSE OF THE GRANT FUNDS....

CALL YOUR PEOPLE... SOON... I DID AND HAVE THE SATISFACTION OF KNOWING THAT LINDSAY GRAHAMS STAFFERS WILL AT LEAST BRING IT TO HIS ATTENTION.... HOW LEFT WING IS YOUR OWN CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION??? MAKES YO STOP AND PAUSE DOSENT IT?????? OR FOR SOME NOT AT ALL..
Easy on the all caps...no reason for shouting.
Yep, just discussing....so there is more than just one city that this group is affiliated in, so yeah spread that funding out then across the board and it could make sense.
How in the he77 does ACORN even qualify to submit for FIRE ACt money?? Wonder how much that fed money will simply go full circle BACK to their elected DemoCRAP candidates,

Being the funds requested were for fire prevention initiatives, there is more than just fire departments that can qualify for that. I already explained my thoughts on that earlier so feel free to read them. As for a political issue, if monies were received last year, then it is more than just democrats to place blame...right?
Actually, John, the Dems held the majority last year too!
I'm just sayin'.

Maybe I'm missing the responses to the ACORN thread here. Anyway this is just one of many corrupt programs aimed at supporting certain demographics. Big players in the meltdown of the housing market. Huge funds transferred to their coffers. Their goal is power and to create a dependence on their existence. We should use those funds as rewards for those willing to be whistleblowers within the organization. Please do not just cut out funding to ACORN, but eliminate it and all community organizer agencies funded with federal and state money.
