HEY CALEB, YA I WAS THERE-WE SPENT A WEEK UP THERE- STAYED AT MINISOTT HIGH SCHOOL FOR MOST OF THE WEEK AND THEN THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS IN PLYMOUTH- THEY HAD TO CLOSE THE SCHOOL BECAUSE OF THE KIDS COMING BACK. WE DID STRUCTURE PROTECTION THE FIRST PART OF THE WEEK, ALSO HELPED ONE OF THE FARMERS BURN OUT HIS FIELDS AFTER HE HAD HARVESTED HIS WHEAT. LAST PART OF THE WEEK WE WENT RIGHT INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE POOP - WE WENT IN TO SOME OF THE HEAVILY BURNED OUT AREAS WITH OUR BRUSH TRUCK AND KEPT SOME OF THE UNBURNED AREAS WET. IT WAS QUITE THE EXPERIENCE ID DO IT AGAIN TOO. ALMOST THOUGHT WE WERE GONNA GO TO MRYTLE BEACH TO THAT WILDFIRE-( WE HAVE A CONTRACT WITH FORESTRY ), BUT THEY NEVER CALLED US
hey thats awesome apperciate the response yeah the local departments had to stay in there area to cover there calls but we were on stand by but all the firefighters and ems from other places that satayed at our station were always talking about being up at the fire and stuff and you know us firefighters we were like let us go up there lol
LOL JUST REREAD MY COMMENT FROM YESTERDAY....AND I REALIZED IT LAST NIGHT..IT WAS MATUMASKEET HIGH SCHOOL THAT WE STAYED AT..AND IM NOT SURE IF THATS SPELLED RIGHT....LAFFIN . THAT FARMER THAT WE HELPED BURN HIS FIELDS OUT...I REMEMBER DRIVING TOWARDS THE BACK OF HIS FIELD, WHICH WAS RIGHT UP AGAINST THE REFUGE...AND SEEING THIS BIG BLACK BEAR SITTING AT THE EDGE OF THE FIELD, AND EATING THE PILES OF WHEAT THAT WERE LEFT BEHIND AFTERWARDS,IF HE HAD STOOD UP HE WOULD HAVE BEEN AT LEAST 8-9 FT TALL...HE NEVER PAID US ANY MIND THOUGH. ALTHOUGH FIRE IS A NECESSARY EVIL IN THE ENVIRONMENT..MY HEART REALLY WENT OUT TO THE CRITTERS THAT GOT KILLED OR WERE LEFT HOMELESS FOR AWILE I REMEMBER THE MORNING BRIEFINGS AND SOMETIMES THEY HAD A PICTURE OF ANIMAL ON THE COVER BUT ALL IN ALL IT WAS THE EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME...I GIVE WHOLEHEARTED RESPECT TO FORESTRY GUYS...THAT IS SOME TOUGH WORK.....CHRIS
yeah well we certenially apperciate forestry and all you guys and everyone firefighters and ems personnel that came down to help it showed how strong the brotherhood i quess you could say is alot of departments that were volunteer that didnt have to come and people takeing time off work it was amazing and yeah mattamaskeet school im int the engelhard district the school is about 15 20 mins away from us right inside the line of the other district the swan quarter district.
