i have been on plane crash missions, but with Civil Air Patrol. opposed to my fire dept. they are the hardest seeming things to get out of your mind. why do you ask this?
A few years ago we had a F-16 from Lakehurst crash just west of the GSP I wasn't on the call but the units that went in were stopped my the military , if you ever get the chance guys take a responding to aircraft and military plane crash ..class I attended and it was an eye opener , having had military I knew what a canopy could do when released but you forget in a crash just how to approach the craft , there are few cases when a canopy is still entacked but if for no other reason that lesson is the one to learn. They showed a demo vid on a sim crash and put a manaquin straddling the canopy as if pulling the pilot out now normally we all might think yeah and?..but you have to remmeber on military especially the engines are not off till you kill the APU (Auxillary Power unit ) even if the jet turbine is not moving the engines are ready to fire if the APU is on also all electronics and power is active the APU will trigger any system once it is triggered there is no stopping it , long story short in the vi as the dummy was over canopy area a flap was opened where it says .."pull for rescue" near the nose cone and in a matter of 1 second the canopy and seat area exploded and sent the pilot and dummy about 100feet in the air. that was a small example the fact that all the computers are alive as long as apu is on can trigger a missle fire or guns or engine restart causing back blast.
We had a National Guard C130 crash in our mutual aid area several years ago. All five crew members will killed. The man in the house they struck escaped injury.

Before that, we had a little Cessna hit a electric line and landed in the river. Both passengers were killed. That same wire came down across and Interstate highway and caused a couple of cars to wreck, no serious injuries there.

We also have had several Ultralights come down. Only one of them resulted in two deaths.

We have a small airport in our first due area.
I have not been on a plane crash. But we just got a major airport. So we have been doing a lot of training on them.
